Thanks Micah, appreciate you always being willing to share great info.
Wait a minute - You guys use a dishsoap for softwash? Man am I looking forward to February
Thought it may be good to point out what Dawn lacks for soft washing…
It is a decent surfactant. It does help to break the surface tension of the dirt. It may also help slightly with verticle cling.
However, what it lacks:
It’s not buffered for use with bleach. It actually weakens the bleach.
It does not soften the water.
It does not contain a wetting/rinse agent.
It does not offer hardly any fragrance/odor masking.
It does not offer any kind of protective wax.
However, this thread is for ecover for window washing. Maybe we should start a new thread for soft washing mixes?
no we don’t use dishsoap for soft wash. What we agree on is using bleach to soft wash. What we disagree on is what surfactant to use as the additive to the bleach.
This half of we uses Dawn dish soap. The other half of we can speak for himself.
I don’t, Micheal does.
Micheal, thank you for finding that for me. I will get my web guy on it ASAP. There is also another reason besides the reasons mentioned above 1. My surfactant and detergent is cheaper than dawn 2. My surfactant and detergent cleans way better than dawn. 3. My surfactant and detergent is chorine stable so I save even more money by not wasting any housewash mix. 4. And best of all, if I found out my competitor was using and could print this thread for proof that he was using dawn and bleach, I would win every bid and be higher because I would tell my client “why pay him to do what you can mix up with stuff from Walmart?”…PRICELESS:)
Sorry if my post came across wrong. What I meant to say was “you guys use dishsoap as the additive to bleach” I don’t even know what that means, but I’ll find out soon enough.
so you’re telling me… the reason your clients use you is because the SUPPLIES are too difficult for them to acquire?!
haha
Now THAT is PRICELESS.
Yes, that is a huge selling point for me as a matter of fact. That and saving them time are my 2 biggest selling points. That’s why I’m a professional and they call me because I have professional supplies, equipment, and knowledge. The clients I have are high end and they want to know that I’m not just a guy with a pressure washer in the back of my car (not saying you do…just an example) and buying some store bought bleach and dawn. They pay me to use professional chemicals and know how to use the professional chemicals.
What would you think most home owners would think if you had a lawn care business and you treated their lawn for a pretty good cost. You showed up with a lowes walk behind spreader, 2 bags of Scott’s turf weed and feed from lowes, and went and put it out on the lawn? Most would call up and cancel you because they can do that. All you did was save them a trip to lowes and charged them 4 times the cost. The customer wants to know and see professionalism and that’s what we’re all about…
This thread is getting way off-topic and veering into Rule 7 territory. Time to start another thread about using dish soap to wash houses.
This thread is about using dish soap to wash windows.
I like ecover for windows
Yes sir, mister super-mod, sir!
You’re gonna need an emoticon w/ that post Michael.
Who ever thought so much passion would be poured into this subject?
32 pages and counting about dish soap.
I love window cleaners!
And a “green” hippie dish soap none the less!!
I think it shows how much most of us really want to see our fellow window cleaners succeed
I am here: Google Maps
You have actually tried yourself then ?
Ok. Since I sometimes get caught up in the hype and get all excited about something only to return to my old standby, I have waited, using the product, before replying. We began using it on residential first and honestly I can’t tell a great difference when compared to our regular solution. However, we will be using it for the next several months and with more challenges, maybe I will notice a difference. I got my order before dange’s video and was skeptical that it would work as good as TSP on greasy fingerprints. Gave a bottle to my storefront guy and told him to try it, but not to expect it to live up to the hype. He called after cleaning a McDonalds and said it dissolved the fingerprints without adding TSP. He and I were both shocked and pleased. It will definitely be the new soap for storefront work.
Chip-Ster ,
Hey Dude how you doing ?
Say as you well know I was a BIG BIG purveyor of TSP. I’m not pushing Ecover just to be heard but rather as your seeing it is a very good window cleaning soap, You believed in my backing in TSP and found that I was right that it was a very good window cleaning soap…Now after you’ve tried Ecover you know the work abilty of it and also realize I’ve pushed TSP to the curb.
As time goes by you’ll realize that it is the best W/C soap…Each day I use it I see the beauty of it even more…It is absolutely the best soap I’ve ever come across.

Wonder if you can softwash with TSP?
