For those of you that utilize Angie’s list, I’d strongly advise setting up storefront deals.
This year we started with 3 reviews. We are currently up to I believe 40-45 total. I want to say after we got to 30, we started getting calls from people just finding us on Angie’s list, then soliciting us for services.
It’s the season where people are shopping for windows and gutters, so my advice is set up a few storefront deals where even after Angie’s cut, you still basically get what you want per hour/pane or however you price.
We advertise for pw monthly thru Angie’s, but not for windows. I’d say in the last 2 weeks we have sold 4 or 5 storefront 20 window specials for $279, so after their cut I’m still at like $220 for 20 windows.
If your reviews aren’t there, I’d also recommend a big deal. We have done very well both financially and review wise off properly set deals.
if you want more info on how to set up a deal, just shoot me a pm and ill walk you through my process.
example of a bad deal(just ran in my area):
33 windows for $85. Please don’t run something like this. Stupid is the best way to put it.
if you want more info on how to properly utilize Angie’s list, just shoot me a pm or text at (612)360-6131
I can’t stress enough, tis the season. Prime that pump fellas
Did you have any negative reactions from clients?
I’ve wondered how people would respond to getting a request to review my company if it’s been awhile since I cleaned their windows.
I’m doing well on Yelp but don’t have a single Angie’s review yet.
they compare your list to their member list, and don’t bug your customers that aren’t already members. Angies List members are used to have AL contact them asking for reviews. It doesn’t bug them. I am a member personally, and I get emails from them and don’t mind.
i’ve tried it twice. didn’t get any hits. i only have about 200 clients though, so that’s a small pool to pull from. at this point i’m thinking of offering to pay for memberships for some of my friends and long-time clients, just so i can get the two member reviews i need to run a big deal or advertise on AL.
This was sent to me from AL, wanted to share it with you all …

All I have to say is… If you are going to invest in Angie’s List Advertisement: HOLD OUT FOR THE %50 percent discount they will likely offer you when you inquire about their programs and don’t call them back!
From what i understand, even last year, the storefront deals only required you to give AL a single digit % ( 2-6 i believe). Now, because of the market competition for them (Groupon, living social, amazon, etc) im assuming they bumped it up. AL also now does not give you the customers e mail, you have to rrespond to them through the message center, again kinda shady, cause you can buy mailing lists from AL.
All that said, 20% is norm. I consider myself a decent negotiator and i couldent get em to budge. The way i set up wc storefront deals are 20 window specials, where even after ms.Angie takes her cut, im still on point with my pricing.
To sell storefront, reviews are important. IMO, best way to get reviews are big deals. The fetch didn’t really yeild anything for us either, i think i sent em like 400 customers and maybe got like 2 reviews.
Another good thing to do wit your storefront offers is to set up a few different ones. 10 windows ext only, 15 windows in/out w screen cleaning, 20 windows in/out, etc. Give em options to choose from, just make sure that the price point gets you close to your average. With the storefront deals, you can set up pricing as you want, as where with the big deal, you have to more run something comparable with another deal that has done well nationally.
big deals i can usually get em at like 70/30, but they start the negotiations closer to 60/40.
