Anyone closing a lot of leads from Thumbtack?

Signed up for thumbtack over the weekend and got 9 leads today…didn’t close any? Thought I presented my offer well and was friendly…I’m fairly cheaper I think over the other guys so how cheap do I have to go?

I was on Thumbtack for a month. I saw a fair amount of leads come through and failed to close any as well. I don’t use them any longer. Not enough contact info and Thumbtack doesn’t ask the correct questions for me to make a good bid. I can just see a room full of folks typing yup fake leads and you and I spending three bucks a pop to never hear back.

Edit; why post the same question twice?

No, I thought that too so I did some investigation…I checked on Facebook for some of people I got leads from and they’re real people. Lol

Some local companies that I’m familiar with seem to be staying busy with Thumbtack. I initially wrote “seem to be doing okay with Thumbtack” but changed it because I suspect that you have to be real cheap to get the business. I posted a fake request for service once in order to get familiar with the process, had three (I think) companies get in touch with me, one bailed when I asked about insurance, and one (that incidentally had hundreds of TT reviews) gave a dirt cheap price but also had great reviews.

So my conclusion at the time was that the TT leads are mostly interested in the lowest price, period.

I think he’s right on. Ive been active for 4 months or so, I have very few leads, and bid on 4. Three got refunded for lack of customer participation (which is awesome that they are honest with your money) and I won the last. The guy wanted the cheapest reliable guy possible.

It was for a gutter cleaning and there isn’t enough information. I would have priced $100 more minimum if I had seen the home. Remember they are not in our business, and they will not estimate correctly! This service benefits the customer more than you. Be careful with your wording so you can adjust the price once on site if needed.

That job is still money I didn’t have and it paid for more bids. I am tentatively happy

Have been using thumbtack for almost two years. Only a small percentage of work I get is from Thumbtack. But the customers I do get, have had me come back spring and fall and are good customers. So there are good customers to find but like was said, probably about 25% never even view the quote, and the credits get refunded, maybe thumbtack needs to educate on this and how it works. The other 50% are just looking for the cheapest option and/or I see that they decided to hire a friend or do it themselves… So just fishing for pricing.

But… Thumbtack is pretty reasonable compared to Home Advisor. Never have used HA and never will.

Best of luck to you!

Yes I can’t see spending 300 and still have to spend more per lead…that’s double dipping…TT so far has gotten me 2 jobs this week and I just started using it this week…

I don’t close a lot of leads, but I do get a ton of inquiries.

Here are some tips:

Setup email templates that you can just send out to people who inquire about your services.
Have a consistent rate calculator.

Do personalized email writing/calling only after the first inquiry.

I signed up about a month ago and got a ton of leads; never closing any, just like anyone else. I still got the notifications and noticed a lead from a more well to do town and decided to give a bid and he took it. Have it scheduled for end of June, so I’ll see how it goes. One thing I noticed in the comments left that led me to bid was that he listed it as “his other house”. I figured it was a safe bet he wasn’t a fake.

Stop enabling third party nonsense and “They Will Come…”

I think I am on the opposite end of the spectrum as you guys. I have been using Thumbtack since about January. I do get a lot of leads, but I also get a lot of people calling me from there.

Right now, I only do weekend work, but stay busy enough just from people on Thumbtack to have my weekends booked with route work and if no route work, resi work. So I actually like using Thumbtack. It has been an excellent ROI for me.

I wonder: Does your NAP get indexed on Thumbtack? I started to sign up and it asked me for my personal address and birth date without asking for my business address. Only asked for my zip code service area
