Just thought I would throw out the question of holiday pay for July 4th. This year the 4th of July lands on a Sunday so I was wondering if any of you guys that pay holiday pay, feel obligated to pay for the 4th? It says that in our handbook that we pay the five major holidays. What would you do?
The fed’s will have Monday July 5th off? I guess I never really paid much attention to that. Thats BS IMO.
Good thing we’re in the private sector. “put’em to work on Monday, no holiday pay for Sunday” thats what my old boss would have said. Right or wrong, this is a really good question.
Most major businesses that pay for holidays follow this rule. If a paid holiday falls on Saturday, then the employee is off on Friday and paid for Friday. If a paid holiday falls on Sunday, then the employee is off on Monday and paid for Monday. This assumes that saturday and Sunday are not normal workdays for the business.
I have actually been thinking of implementing holiday pay and/or paid vacation. How much do you guys pay for a day off? Do you guys do paid vacation as well or just holiday pay? If paid vacation, how many days do you give?
This is what is written in my employee handbook. Holidays:
Windows Only LLC recognizes the following holidays: New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
When a holiday falls on a weekend, Windows Only LLC will designate the Friday preceding or Monday following as the observed holiday at the discretion of management. Regular full-time employees are paid eight (8) hours for each holiday; regular part-time employees are paid for holidays based upon the number of hours they are normally scheduled.
