Are you using QR codes?

[CENTER]Is anyone utilizing QR codes in their marketing? Have any cool ideas you want to share? Business cards, unique urls, youtube video, dial your number?

Scan the one below with your phone’s barcode reader and it’ll take you to my webpage:

I know Scan Life allows you a free code for personal use, but charges you for business use. Even so, I’ve thought of using that in marketing but haven’t yet. I was even thinking a little while ago about the possibility of making stickers with one or more of these codes on them to put on my invoices to get customers to take some ongoing or further action of some sort leading to residual profits. I just don’t know what right now. I’d sure like to hear more about this too.

Here is a free generator QR-Code Generator

Brennon, I generated one and it worked. However, it says non-commercial use only though I’m not sure what’s done to police it.
I saved the code and the image itself. When I tried to open the image it said it was an MS-DOS application and not compatible with the version of Windows I am using.

I don’t think this website mentions anything about being for commercial purposes. It also lets you change the color of the image.

Brennon we are getting 2 new trucks this year, when they get lettered up… Im going to get some QR codes on them… I think I heard John K talk about it a few months ago and loved the idea.

I’d love to see how that looks.

If your interested in QR codes, you should check out Microsoft’s tag reader. They are free and you can build your own code using colors or pictures. The app for your phone is free as well.

I designed my own code with a picture and have them on the back of my business card.

If you want to see what it looks like you can click on my profile and see that my avatar is my code.

Also you can check out Microsoft’s website here http://tag.microsoft.com/consumer/index.aspx
About 6 months ago I just happened to be talking to a Microsoft employee and I asked her what she thought about QR codes- she laughed and told me that she works for Microsoft and that she is part of the design team who created Microsoft’s own codes (I did not know she worked for Microsoft at the time as we were discussing other things).

Microsoft tags are much more flexible as far as customization goes.

Here is a screen shot of my code from my profile page and on my business card. I have included the extra text and picture of the phone as way to show people how to use the code, but you do not have to do this if you do not want to. You can just have the code itself. My code is one that I made using a picture, but you can make them without pictures or without colors as well.

Also, you can track how many times your codes are scanned for your own marketing/curiosity purposes. It doesn’t collect any info other than the fact that it was scanned. You just log in and view your report for that code (or any others you have) and it simply shows a graph of when and how many times it was scanned.

EDIT- This particular code is for my contact info. When it is on the back of my business card, people can scan it and have all the info put directly into their phone if they choose to save it. You can also create codes that link to your website or whatever as well.

Ill post a pic

The new WCBO window cleaning magazine uses the Microsoft tag readers… I like those a lot better, they scan and snap into action much quicker than the standard qr codes…

WCBO Window cleaners magazine

The “barcode scanners” that most people have on iphone and android are going to be for the QR codes.

Oh I know fortunately its a free quick download, so if someone wants the additional content in the magazine it wont kill them to take 30 seconds to download it. Once they do they will be glad they did, it functions way better. Quicker, more consistent, less crashes – From my tests at least.

Someday soon- it won’t matter if it’s a Microsoft tag (HCCB) or a QR code- or whatever, because code readers will be able to read them all. It’s only because things are still relatively new that things seem incompatible at this time.

Never heard of them.

you should look into them :-)!

Scan Life reads bar codes now, just like Tag Reader. You can also just take a photo of a code and text it to ScanLife to get the same info.

I’ve heard of a few people that put them on their business cards. I wonder how effective that would be.
