I’m seeking ways to get the spores off glass without scratching. We’ve done it some with success but in most cases where the tar has been there for a bit it only comes off with the scraper and generally leaves a little scratching.
Any chemicals? Any methods other than scraping? Shot in the dark I know.
Dwight I remove that shotgun fungus all the time from a few accounts that I have that just love putting fresh mulch out. I’ve never had a problem cleaning it off the glass as far as scratching.
Now every once in a while, a “speck” will leave a light trail in the direction from which it was scraped. I could see where this may possibly look like a scratch, but it’s actually just residue that requires another pass with a razor. Do you think that may be what your experiencing?
I suggest to my clients to use pineneedles instead of mulch. You won’t get the shotgun fungus with pineneedles. They won’t need to reapply the pineneedles as often either from my experience.
We get the residue sometimes Micah but if that stuff is on there for some time, you will most likely have to kinda “chip” it off sometimes causing a minor scratch. Have you ever used any chemicals with success? I suggest that people use rock/stone instead of mulch. Looks good and easy to clean.
I’ve never scratched any glass removing it from windows, but I do carry a fact sheet with me for power washing customers that explains the problem so they know that I cannot remove it by washing the siding.
Ok, I tried some of the sporiclean today at a residential job today. I didn’t do extensive testing, but from what I can tell, It works great at removing the fungus residue left on the glass after you scrape it. After about 30seconds after applying, the spots wiped right off. I didn’t think to test it until after I already scraped the glass. I plan on doing some more thorough tests at a commercial job of mine.
It would be nice to if it could be applied to artillery fungus on house siding and be PWed off. Perhaps with only a little light scrubbing? I don’t do PW yet so it will be a while before I have a chance to test.
