Can I use a surface cleaner to clean an asphalt driveway? If so are there any precautions I need to take or be aware of?
I see lots of information and videos on using this piece of equipment on concrete, but very little information on using it on asphalt. Additionally, I planned to spray the driveway and concrete sidewalk with some SH and water mixture (similar to that used for softwashing vinyl). Is this good to do or not?
My last pay check was $9500 working 12 hours a week online. My sisters friend has been averaging 15k for months now and she works about 20 hours a week. I can’t believe how easy it was once I tried it out. This is what I do,

Personally I would not use a surface cleaner or pressure on asphalt. I got a few buddies who do, but to me it’s not worth the headache. What are you trying to remove? For us it’s always moss they want removed.
Thanks for responding Dave. Ironically, I read your thread (see link below) from a few years ago about this very issue where you stated that you were getting conflicting info about using a surface cleaner on asphalt. Did you ever use a surface cleaner on asphalt and if so, what were the result? Curious. I will probably just buy the BE 14" surface cleaner to use for the concrete areas (sidewalks and aprons) and use the old fashion method for the asphalt driveway.
Btw, I have some algae, oil stains (sons leaky car) and dirt that needs to be removed. This is for my own driveway.
Well if it’s your own I say use it to learn! Split it into 4ths and try many things. I have resealed mine twice with basic stuff from Home Depot. Wasn’t hard to do.
I have never used a surface cleaner on asphalt and never will. Was at a home two weeks ago I could tell someone did. It was the homeowner. Striped all the seal coat off.
For us we deal with moss, when someone wants their asphalt cleaned it’s always due to moss. I strongly encourage our clients to attack it with bi-annual treatments of moss killer. Cause even if you pressure wash it, don’t damage it, the damn moss is gonna come back.
A good buddy will use a green tip and 2k PSI. but he has not problem telling people to jump off a cliff if they complain.
Asphalt is basically rock and oil, any use of pressure no one can 100% say they won’t reduce the life of driveway.
I let a guy 4 years ago do jobs on the side. They were small and straight forward. I stopped by and watched him. We then were asked by a sweet little old lady to do hers. Long story, but it was 80% good, 20% bad. This particular time we used the stuff you apply with a roller. (told the lady it would need two coats)
I have now done my small ass driveway twice to learn. 1st time with the roller, the second time with the product you use a floor squeegee.
Floor squeegee one is the way I would go in the future. Easier to work with, looks better etc.
However, if you are thinking of adding this service buying HD products is the same as getting your wc tools there.
I just did a good ole wash down, scrubbed the oil spots with degreaser and squeegeed the driveway with sealant. It turned out great. Now, lets see how long it lasts.
