Bar Keepers Friend

Do any of you use bar keepers friend? I had a job for a first time clean up at a nursery. The exterior was bad- hadn’t been touched in years. When I got to the inside, it was just as bad from the over-spray of plants onto the windows behind them. I’d seen in a video on youtube some time ago a guy who recommended using BKF. I put an ounce or two into my bucket. It didn’t completely remove the hard water spots, but it sure cut down on the work I needed to do with my steel wool. Wondering if anyone else uses it on any other basis…?

When useing bar keepers friend
…wet the window
…wet your white scrubby pad
…apply BKF to the white scubby pad
Then scrub the window.

When you added it to your bucket it just diluted it down to far to really be effective.

Hope that helps!

Thanks

i always have it on hand and made several posts about it as have others. i find the liquid easier to use for window cleaning.
i usually use it straight similar to wcs.
i do not add it to my regular mix, it’s only for mineral deposits or other extraordinary crap.

does it damage the window?

Always test a small area first…

Tinted or coated glass are sensitive.

I havent heard it has damaged any clear glass.

Bar keepers friend uses oxalic acid as the secret ingredient. Never tasted to see if oxalic acid will etch.
Test it on your home windows first

Yes, big fan of it, it’s my first line of offense against hard water stains. It’s what I normally recommend to friends because of how easy it is to find. Use it the same way WCS mentioned

put it on wet glass
rub it over with a sponge or non scratching pad, or applicator or brush.
rinse it off in less than a minute.

never seen it damage anything.

i don’t think you should taste it MP

Isn’t tasting the best way to determine acid content. I do it to ensure the proper citric acid levels in my margaritas.

No, you have to completely ingest acid to get any fun out of it at all. Don’t ask how I know…

PS - Not that I’m recommending that…

How can you tell your clients that your methods are “safe” if you haven’t personally tasted them all? I mean tested them all.
