I am starting up a small window cleaning business with just me and my wife doing residential at first. What would the best inclusive starter kit be on here I was thinking the resi get it the game kit. Also some other items I am buying are a step stool and an extension ladder. What are some other items that y’all recommend? Thanks in advance!
Wouldn’t suggest a starter kit, just do
Research on what is essential to starting out and then purchase as you go rather than spending money on things you don’t immediately need
Welcome to the world of window cleaning. I started mine with my wife a couple of years ago, and it’s been pretty rewarding with a nice flexible schedule which allows us to spend more time on community volunteer work which is our passion. I agree that those kits aren’t always the best choices. For resi, I’d say at least five or six standard channels (6", 8", 10", 12", 14", 18"), four handles with quick switch system, and good rubber pack such as Ettore Master. Feel free to give me a call at (859) 493-1895 if you have more questions.
I’ve spent hours assembling that kit. It is bare bones to get you started, so not much waste. If anything, you’ll need to ADD stuff to it, as your OP suggests.

No disrespect Jordie, but there is too much fatn in that kit for a guy doing just residential.
Ditch the ettore pole and buy a 12’ garelick.
Only get squeegees in 14” and 18”. Maybe a 10”.
No buckets, use garden sprayer from Lowes. It’s cleaner, cheaper and easier than carrying a bucket around the inside of a house.
Some rags and a scrubber and he’s ready to start.
He could easily shave a hundred or so by buying only what he needs. Spend the savings on a good extension ladder.
Been one for 15+ years. 5 gallon premixed and sprayers. I’ve never dunked in a bucket of dirty water. Always use clean solution. It’s cleaner, easier and efficient.
I am interested in this idea (sprayer) but for me the bucket helps to clean the excess dirt from the mop (yes ut sullies the water but much od the dirty goes to the bottom) from previous windows. I do see the virtue of such an idea for interior work and for a while I carried a bottle for interior. when your mop gets too dirty on ther exterior what’s your method if getting the crud off?
I find that occasionally wringing it out as well as having unused scrubbers on hand makes a difference. But you would be surprised at how dirty it doesn’t get when you are constantly applying clean, soapy water. The only time that I consider a bucket of water is when the hot, Texas sun is drying the glass too soon. But that is usually storefront, rarely residential. The idea of taking the dirty, greasy water from one restaurant and putting it on the glass of my next customer has never appealed.
Makes sense. I refill my bucket after each house with 1 gallon for interior only and wfp for all
Exterior so I don’t really run into those types of issues but storefront makes sense why you’d need a sprayer
Thanks for the input. With the sprayer are you just putting soapy mixture inside and then spraying it onto the windows and then using t-bar to clean? Seems like a good idea.
I’d like to add I don’t find “professional” window cleaning soaps helpful to a noob, just my opinion.
TexasRich has made great suggestions.
I didn’t know what worked the fastest, and best for me until I spent a whole bunch of money on all sorts of different stuff. I think each person has their own flavor. I like wagtails because their clipless. I always sucked at trying to fit a clip in the end of a channel… lol
You can get a regular bucket for a few bucks. If there’s a lot of heavy dirt on the ext windows I’d brush them and rinse them off before using a scrubber on them. Bucket only used if I get dirt in my clean t-bar that I’m using clean solution with from a squirt bottle or sprayer like TexasRich suggested. Buckets in the inside can be problematic. The little pump up sprayers are cheap and usually there’s a sink you can clean your t-bar in. If it gets to dirty.
Do most glass with a 14" t-bar & squeegee myself; I usually finish a window using both hands so use the same size t-bar & squeegee. If there’s a lot of big glass then I’d go bigger but usually would be doing residential. Nice not having to carry too many tools. Divided light you might need something smaller of course.
