I don’t offer blind cleaning but tomorrow I am just for this one customer. How do you guys clean wood blinds? I told them that I would just dust them and they said that would be okay. What is the fastest way to do this. Thanks!
Probably a swiffer 360
California Car Duster.
A air compressor would be nice to get the worst off, then wipe from there.
I have a duster I got from a janitorial supply place. Not sure the name. It has a 2ft long wood handle with what looks like a lambs wool duster. I dust em off then wipe with a micro fiber cloth, but only with blinds that are not gunked and sticky. I have only done a few for clients and hate doing it.
Wouldn’t that create a mess in the customer’s house?
If your just dry brushing, I really, really like my 12" boars head brush. Brush it on the window before you do the glass, make sure to turn the blind both ways. If your worried about a mess, a shop vac with a soft brush attachment works well too.
I kid you not, we charge $30-$50 per BLIND(real wood that can’t go in water) for slat by slat disassemble, wipe down, and reassemble. We also clean the head rails, strings, tassles, wands, foot rails, etc… in our ultrasonic cleaner. Clients are super impressed, it bills out amazingly, and referrals are out of this world.
Just for a simple dusting, go to town with a brush. Just keep in mind, in the sun, they will not look perfect… Charge accordingly and manage expectations.
Also, keep in mind people, A house full of hunter douglas or graber blinds will cost 15,000 to 45,000 dollars and up for custom windows. Maintenance is chump change compared to that, just like windows!
It doesn’t work, we’ve tried it, lol. Not efficient anyways…
A shopvac with a soft brush is the way to go if your doing it that way
$30 to $40 bucks a blind! Man, if I can get that kind of money cleaning blind Im going to change my name to Simply Blinds!!
Best post ever.
The Blind Butler is designed to clean wood blinds. The simple way is to push the wood blind aginst the glass and use a damp wrag and wipe 4 slats at a time. Use your hand to hold the slats apart. Use mild soap and then dry. It should take about 3-5 minutes per blind at $15-$25 per unit. It’s far eaiser to remove the blind and do it aginst a solid back board.
To clean a wood blinds go to blindbutler and watch the video on the site. You can do this on the window. Here’s how. With your hand press the blind against the glass and spread out the slats and simply wipe with a damp and mild soap rag. Wipe dry. Do not leave water on a wood blind! You should be able to wipe 4 slats at a time and complete a blind is 3-5 minutes. The going rate is $15-$25 per units. $15 is a small window $20 is a bedroom size blind and $25 is a living room size blind. Very simple to do and it looks great when done. If it’s faux wood blind wash just like a normal blind.
Even at 10 minutes a blind that’s $120 an hour! I’ve found my new service offering. How are you marketing this?
I’ve tried 3 times to post a solution and I dont see the post, what am I doing wrong? Do I hit post quick reply?
damn guys I charge $15 per blind any size and thought i was doing good? I need to move on the coast and start filling my pockets with some of that nice dosh you make.
I’m so glad I posted this because I’m starting to look at blinds a little different now! Thkaks for the tips guys. Post the solution blindbiz…Please!!
A vacuum with a soft brush attachment is definately the way to go. then using a wood safe cleaner and a microfiber towel detail the blind. after that you can lightly oil them for the customer. I think $30 to $50 is reasonable. its a lot of work to do it correctly.
I would just wipe them down by hand each slack with a mild wet cloth but looking at your prices and the way you do it maybe I need to offer it as a basic clean $15 and $45 or something doing what you do. Do you get a lot of customers requesting that or is it more of an up sell on your part when they call maybe for window cleaning?
Using your method how long does it typically take you to do one blind?
I just cleaned a housefull of wood blinds this morning. I used a microfiber mitten like this: Microfiber Cleaning Mitten
that I found at Walmart.
I sprayed it with some watered down furniture polish and went to town.
I made about $250/hour on the blinds!
damn that’s good money, isn’t this business great! How many did you do an hour?
FYI great money doing blinds but boring as hell
