If a business had blinds do ask them to raise them before you come or do it yourself? Do you price higher if the case is the latter.
Not a big deal to raise blinds that are in good working condition. Occasionally, the sun weakens pull cords or brackets are loose. Check it out first, then address any concerns prior to work.
I never charge to raise blinds.
I just raise them. I don’t charge anything extra
If there are employees @ this business i would tell the gm to have one of there employees raise the blinds for instance I service a bar and grill monthly cleaning there windows and they put there chairs on top of the tables rite infront of a good amount of windows. I have there workers take them down while im cleaning and saving time and back pain…
I have never asked anyone to raise blinds, but I do ask them to move things that are breakable or small and in my way. I just got a job washing the windows for a bar and I told them that I would not move around 50 bottles of liquor out of the way to clean the inside of some windows, so they said that they would have employees do it.
Be careful when raising any blinds. even though they have pull cords and wands to operate them, they also are made up of plastic which can be brittle from the sun and age. Whenever I pull up a horizontal blind I assist it by pulling the cord with one hand while the other hand also holds the shade in the middle and lifts up at the same time to take stress off the whole blind mechanism.
if you ever appraoch blinds that look really old and you don,t even want to attempt to operate them, bring over the home owner or store manager to assist you so they can be there if anything happens.
Other than that, I’ve never charged for raising the blinds to clean the windows.
I definitely agree with pulling the cord with one hand and lifting with the other everytime.
Have come across several sets of blinds that were “Professionally installed” then come falling down on me because the top rail was just hanging in the upper brackets.
I hate when that happens. Another thing to watch out for are wooden valances that can fall off an hit you in the face. That has happened more times than I care to admit, and it is very painful. Some genius decided that the best way to attach these to the blinds was with a couple flimsy plastic clips:)
Yeah those wooden valances with plastic clips are a joke. Add a lot of sun and age and BAM…they are falling in your face. When customers ask me for a solution I now carry Velcro strips and just put them on the back and never have an issue again. Good old Velcro…
Good tip. It’s amazing what one person thinks of, so simple, so obvious.
Thanks. It has served me well to keep thinking of new ways to do things better while keeping it as simple as possible.
I would think it would be smart to ask them to pull the blinds up that way if they break or fall apart its there problom not yours…
