I just hired a sales person who will be canvassing neighborhoods for me. What are your thoughts on his own cards with his number. He will be estimating the houses and booking the jobs I will be cleaning the windows.

Cards are cheap. If you think there’s a decent chance he’ll be with you for awhile, I say go for it. Bu the way, I hope he’s making a nice commission doing all that leg work
Think like a lawyer and plan for the worst. Even if he works out for a year, people will still call on that card’s number for much longer than that. Set up a position with all the tools available to have the next guy slide into when this guy bails.
Even better: calltrackingmetrics.com. Phone number for $3 per month, includes, call recording and dozens of amazing features. Even has an iPhone app that lets you dial from that tracking number.

As the owner op of the business I would not want this.
This guy will be seen as the face of the business and not you. You will not be seen as the owner but the guy that works for him.
By all means give him a business card, but make it for the business, and ensure your face and contact details are all over your quote forms, website etc - and ensure his spiel is worded as he works for you.
Who cares what they think as far as who owns what… Just put his name on the card with his job title- sales rep whatever… If anything your company will look more serious and established…
I like your thinking. Great idea. And your right about the calls that would come in a year after he’s gone. I get calls occasionally from my first flyers 2 years ago.

Not a good idea, get him a cell phone… When he leaves, someone else gets his position and cell phone… Dont let employees have tooo much power… They can break you
A pre paid phone might be better. I don’t want a two year additional contract on my hands when he does something else. I’m still not comfortable with a new number and all. Maybe not such a good idea. I just want a sales person to go door to door for me. Perhaps his name my number?

It has to be your number 100% his job is to get out here and bring in business nothing else, you have to book and do the rest, assuming you dont have anyone answering phones. Also, you can do a prepaid phone number if you want, but look at it long term… People hold on to cards for years! You dont want them calling you 4 years later and number is disconnected. Id make him a nice card with your business details- his name and his occupation such as Sales Rep and thats it!
Another reason why he should not have his number- many clients dont call during business hours! What if hes drunk on a saturday night?? Or his a disgruntled employee later on and bad mouths you ones hes gone?? I strongly advice against it
I agree completely my info his name sales rep. I will be the one closing the deals once he’s given the estimate. Mainly For scheduling purposes since my calendar is on my phone.

If he has sales skills and has a likable persona, this can really take your business to the next level… Just stay on top of him… Coach him and it should all be good
shinebright Again, google voice numbers are free with no contracts involved. The limitations are one per gmail account, and the receiving phone can only have one gvoice number forwarded to it. I use it for my main biz phone number. They can dial from that number from a computer or the google voice app - data rates apply. You can set up times and schedules so that that it rings certain phones at certain hours. To take virtual numbers to the next level, seriously look into calltrackingmetrics.com
