Do you need a business license everywhere you operate or only your home city?
Depends on your municipal and/or state laws.
Thanks, I’ll check on this soon with the state and city.
Business License is fairly generic language. Can you be more specific about what you mean ?
I was thinking about the business license required by the city. I live in a rural area but I am close to 3 or 4 small town. Just thought it might get expensive if I have to have one with each town.
I would probably have to travel to a few of these to get enough work.
Why are you assuming a " Business License " is something that even exist in any city ?
OGWC - Are you referring to a Vendors License ? Is that what you mean ?
Probably because there is such a wide variety of policies. When I was in TN I had a city license, but had to pay a tax based on income to the city, the county, and the state. No sales tax collected.
Here in TX I get a Tax ID that acts as my license and I collect sales tax. The tax is payed to the county of my address. Formerly, we had to track which towns we collected in and submit 6.5% to each town. Was very complicated, esp when dealing with rural customers in unincorporated areas. Now, it’s just based on the business address.
So the OP needs to get with his local authorities and see what they require.
I know I have to register my businesswith my state. On my day job I inspect restaurants, hotels and other establishments and they all have a local business license with the city. I don’t live where I work however but I really don’t know what I need right now?
Thanks will do
I’m just getting started guys. I’ve gotten a few quotes on general liability insurance, signed up for the convention in Branson, joined the WCRA and am getting ready to order some tools to practice with. I’m excited about learning a trade and making some more money. I have been on furlough every Friday at work for a while and have always wanted to start my own business anyway. Hope you all are doing well and appreciate any advice.
Great mindset! I hope you get things figured out and you do well.
We have them in each jurisdiction as law requires for your privilege to work in their city or county sometimes both. We have 10 of them.
Hello and welcome to the forum!
