I have a question which kind of deals with this thread… What kind of stand off would you guys recommend for a basic 2-3 story sectional ladder?
As for the ladder against the glass, this is funny but I have seen people do it and put the ladder on the edge of the glass! Some people dont realize that the edge is not stronger and will break very easy. In the fire department when we want to break glass whether it’s on a car or home, we use a punch (in extreme cases a car antenna) and hit the glass on the edge or corner to break it. Breaks easier, works better. I had a guy come to my home the other day to do some work and wanted to lean his ladder against a big 6X6 or so window. I couldn’t believe he asked the question.
Seems the best solution is to use a stand off a few rungs down and throw it under the window your working on.

I used to work for a window cleaner who would put the point of his sectional ladder on the middle of a high window
at an auto dealer. He would wash the window and push the point back to wipe that spot and let it back down. He was lucky.

I would not recommend it.

Cemeteries are filled with people who were lucky. Luck is finite.
