Do you charge the same for one over ones with removable mullions or is it the same price?
Are you asking if I would charge them the same as if the grids didn’t come out? If so the answer is no. I charge more for true divided than an window w/ removable grids.
Same here.
Sorry Mike. After rereading your post I realize you were asking if we charge more on a window that has removable grids as opposed to one that doesn’t.
We don’t. It takes less than a minute for us to remove and replace every type of grid in our area so it’s no big deal. That being said if they are old and potentially could break I have the customer sign off so I’m not expected to replace any that have become to brittle to remove w/out breaking.
It takes about an extra minute to remove and replace 2 mullions. That’s almost as bad as the extra time cleaning a true divided light 6x6. JMO
So, if there are 20 of them in a residence and your target is $1 per minute, you don’t care about the “extra” $15-20?
We average $80-100 per hour on these homes. Our service is cleaning all the glass, wet wiping the sills, and using SM on the screens (if deep cleaning is required we charge $3 more per screen). We offer the most complete window cleaning in our area and as such can charge more so we feel very well paid for the extra time to remove and replace these grids. I used to offer a more basic service then upcharge for everything else. i ran into a few people who felt like I was taking advantage of them. Since we started offering a more complete package I haven’t had any of those complaints. I guess like so many other things it depends on your market as to whether you’d charge for them or not.
I charge more for windows where you have to remove the grids, it takes longer and sometimes MUCH longer. Most of the houses around here will only have them in the front of the house but sometimes… well I have one customer that has 5 casement windows in a vaulted position. I have to go up the extension ladder, pop their pins bring them down, wipe cobwebs and dust off. then go back up the ladder clean the window, come down, go up with the grid definitely charge more but every house is different.
Sometimes I have to use a screw gun to take out the grids, or the caulking might be melting out and the grid is stuck to the window, or the sun has blistered the frame and the grid is stuck and they’re so fragile. I MUCH prefer when those grids are between the glass:D
That’s awesome, I wish I had the guts to think like that.
Hey Tony,
I wouldn’t tell the customer that I’m adding in an extra $1 per double hung window but I have noticed that I make more money per hour on the few houses I do with plain 1x1 windows. Every house on my street has real or fake french panes. It’s the style in my part of the country.
I understand Mike. I don’t run into them as often as you do then. I’d say it’s less than half here.
I sure do care, especially since I end up doing them myself so they don’t get broken
