Chemical for pre-cleaning?

Ever get those houses where the windows haven’t been cleaned in 20 years?

I was wondering if you guys have found something that can be splashed on the windows really quick, but wouldn’t hurt them if it sat for too long (like acid-based cleaners). Letting windows soak in dish soap doesn’t seem to help too much.

The best thing I’ve found so far is Bio-Clean hard water remover, but it’s not great for pre-cleans.

Thanks in advance!

For me my house washing solution works but only if you were doing a house wash before window cleaning. Makes me think that you could possibly use a spray bottle with about 1% SH strength with couple drops of soap. Never tried this but seems like it would work. Basically use a house wash mix in a spray bottle. Dwell, not dry. Rinse and do the regular window cleaning.

I would suggest using a white pad

Water , spray it all down with a hose first. If your talking about Oxidation from screens then , one restore or ya bio-clean.

If it’s a lot of dirt , then rinsing with water From a hose or better yet a Power washer is a good way to go.

You can’t let ANY acid just sit there and dry on the glass, you’ll “burn” it. It messes it up, and bleach’s anything and everything underneath your work area, and if you ain’t careful, everything in a pretty large area-oh it can get stupid.

Have you tried using bronze or steel wool?

Try cleaning the whole glass area first and make sure theres no dust or anything on the glass, wet the glass again and while its wet use the steel wool lightly at first and if it drags real bad, stop and do a tiny corner area and see if it scratchs. If not, keep it wet and unravel the wool at regular intervals to keep stuff that will scratch the glass outta the wool.

May not work, but sometimes you get lucky.

Edit:
That was bass ackwards…do a small corner area first…then do a larger area to see if it drags really bad…

Yes this is how we use One Restore found it is also good for first cleans as well.

Video shows how we applied One Restore on window having calcium build up from sprinklers.
Also noted One Restore suggested use at full strength which is not necessary.
Having mix 1 part One Restore to 3 parts of water is what we use.
So One US gallon / 3.79 liter make 4 gallons / 15litres at this mix.
Also using sprayer is not an option to applie on the glass ether chemical become airborne.
First you breath in the over spray, goes on the skin, cloths etc and it this case it would go on the plants.
Rinsing the One Restore off as explained in video use old scrubber sleeve saturated with cleaning solution flood the glass then squeegee off.
Also like to keep the tools that we use separated from the other WC tools after hosing them down clean.
Above all no matter what chemicals you are using, you should always exercise caution and wear appropriate clothing accompanied by goggles and gloves etc.
Protecting yourself from all chemicals should always be #1.

I always have my wfp ready to rinse once I’m done scrubbing the glass when using one restore

Exactly how I’ve done it as well. There were a couple times that I was working too fast and it was too hot outside, moving too fast, cleaning a few panels at a time. Big mistake. I left the pole with the t bar with the acid leaning agains one of the clean panels and wet it really quick to kinda dilute it while I go back to rinse what was just finished and by the time I went back to the t bar, it burned a shadow of the applicator right into the glass! DOH!

As you can see in video that we do one window at a time.
We squirt the One Restore onto the surface and we are using an old micro fiber cloth to scrub it on the glass.
Also only using at 1 part One Restore to 3 parts water.
In this video it was done in summer.
So yes you have to be quick.
However do not let dry if you feel the stain has to have the chemical on the surface longer.
Just just keep on putting bit more One Restore while scrubbing with a micro fiber cloth to keep it wet.
Then rinse scrub using an old scrubber then squeegee detail done.

Exactly…if it needs some dwell time, put more on the applicator and slowly aggitate the whole surface. However if you need the dwell time don’t forget that the surfaces underneath your area are also getting dwell time. Its good to have running water close by so you can soak the wall etc underneath to keep it from bleaching the area and plants.

Using sprayer IS NOT AN OPTION to apply on the glass ether chemical become airborne.
First you breath in the over spray, goes on the skin, cloths etc and it this case it would go on the plants.
As stated it would be safer to apply chemicals directly onto the surface using a squirt bottle.
Of cause wearing PPE goggles and gloves etc.
