Christmas light installation

I didn’t see a better forum to put this is so I thought this one would work.

I’m trying to look down the line and get prepped for the fall. Don’t want it to sneak up on me.

I would like to do Christmas light installation. Do any of you know of a good site to go to read about products and techniques? How does pricing for the jobs usually work out? What kind of equipment do you need to do a job in a timely and efficient manner?

I know it’s a little early to start talking about Christmas, just trying to stay one step ahead.

Thanks
Sam

I don’t have much time so I’ll provide my number. 425.829.2789 I’ll glady chat about my model and my competitors models.

GKI Bethlehem is the product I sell, they are out of New England I believe. There is also American Lighting. If you start researching you’ll ulitmatley find many middle men who are just selling these guys products, yeah GE also sells lights, but I’ve never purchased from them. Maybe they only sell to distributors. GKI sells quality products.

You really don’t need much more beyond what you already have. You will want a…can’t think of what it’s called…something to read how much power you using. You can pick up a decent one for less than $200.

I’d glady share pricing, I am changing my christmas lighting model this year in hopes of being less stressed and having more time.

Google “Brothers Holiday Lighting”, I’ll say they have a good website and great business model. I have not be impressed with their work, but their clients get exactly what they pay for so it isn’t Brothers fault.

I feel this is response is a bunch of rambling. If you’d like give me a call 425.829.2789. I’ll be around a pressure washer all weekend so if I don’t answer I’ll call you back.

Dave,

Thanks for the reply. I’ll give you a call on Sunday if that’s OK.

Sam

Any day work for me as they are all working days. On Sunday I’ll be around the pressure washer, but i shouldn’t be running it so better chance I will hear it. My only request is to keep in mind the time difference. I’m in WA ST and will wake at 7am. Look forward to chatting.

I am looking to get into Christmas light also. Smezzell, if you could post some of the info you recieve I would greatly appreciate it!

Found this ad at a christmas forum .
Hey guys,

I will be selling off my install business which services the Ann Arbor/Novi area in Michigan. I’m moving out of the area so wont be able to manage it anymore.

Currently we are asking $12,500. We own all our clients lights, some ladders, the website Holiday Light Express Christmas Light Installation Service Landscape lighting (ranks very well), a bunch of extra lights, a 16 channel AL set up with four dancing trees. We have a leased truck that is all lettered up as well. And just the general “stuff” that is related to the business.

If you listen to what I tell you… you should have about $30K in sales for 2010 and $45K in 2011.

Let me know if you are interested in buying it, buying part of it…etc. we can finance part of it as well.

Either PM me or call my office at 734-619-1201

Just watch Chevy Chase’s Christmas Vacation…That’s a great reference tool.

HAHA I watch that every year without fail to put my in the mood to hang lights. **** last year I watched it Oct 5th and was hanging lights by the Oct 15th.

It can be a good add on for adds.

Hey Dave when do you guys start putting out flyers ?

I want to get into Christmas lighting too. My main concern is when my residential season will end. I’d much rather be cranking out windows til 12/23 and enjoy January off than take the risk of treading on untested territory.

But then again, I’ve discussed this opportunity with a close frined of mine who is a licensed electrician, and his biz is dead as doornails that time of year, so I may suggest a me-sales / him-service type deal to make a few extra $$$ during the fall.

That could work for both of you, good idea. I don’t put up my own lights, that’s what wife and kids are for. I ain’t doing it for someone else

I’m wondering if there is such a booklet or catalog that has different houses with different displays to show your customers what you offer, and what they can choose.

anyone know?

I was just about to revive this thread when I see it’s here already.

Dave, I may call you again to chat this next week. Looking to move forward on this on a limited basis and still not sure how to price it.
