Had a set of gutters today that would have required me to put down the 24’ ladder and get out my 32’ ladder and have my helper stop what he was doing and come heel the ladder. I suspected that the gutters were going to be clean and I had already blown the downspout out from the bottom up. So I had a thought… rubber band my droid to the gutter spoon and put it on a pole and record a video. It worked awesome, the spoon angle gave a great view inside the gutters, and in fact I was right, the gutters were clean. Saved my time, my helpers time and having to throw the 32’ which is always a plus. Oh, I do have accidental damage insurance on the phone.
Question for you from someone that rarely does gutters… how did you blow out the downspout from underneath?
By the way, GREAT idea
Put the blower tube in at the bottom of the downspout where the water discharges. If it’s clear you might notice some small debris coming out and you will not notice a change in the blower sound. If it’s cloged you’ll hear the blower sound change as if the tube is blocked, if it’s not too cloged you’ll get a clump of gunk shooting up. Sometimes with landscaping you just cant reach the top of the downspouts. This is a good way to see if the downspout is clear. It’s not my normal procedure but it’s an alternate. Same concept as from the top just a little messier if it’s blocked and decides to unblock. Wear a hat.
Nice idea w/ the phone camera Steve!
Why no gutters, Chris? Is one of my favorite ways of making money. I just bills out better than most window jobs and it’s a lot easier, IMO.
Nice idea! WayneShockey posted a video a while back of a camera attached to a pole to do awning inspections. your method is something I could do easily, on the fly with what I have in my truck tho.
hahaha i enjoyed that little trick…
I’m sure it depends on the area, but gutter cleaning kills it. easy money. especially if you get a walk-able comp roof. its about time to get sloppy with some gutters here soon…
