Cleaning Solution Questions

@TheWindowCleanse I enjoy learning from your videos as they’re detailed and thorough for beginners. What solution is in the two bottles on the left of your belt?

In addition, how do you get your mop so soapy? I use warm water, Dawn, and vinegar (windshield fluid in cold temps). I hear that you should use a couple tablespoons of dawn per gallon, but it creates next to no suds. I use a couple quick squirts per Zep bottle.

Should I use a window cleaner like Zep, mixed with water, or alone? What about with Windex?

I also have an AWP Carpenter’s pouch as Lowe’s did not carry a BOAB. I place my mop in a pouch with a plastic bag, as the pouch is not waterproof. I do have two metal rings, but use them for my 12" squeegee and bottle, as I don’t want my mop dripping

I’ve also heard that the less suds, the better. Is this myth?

Right now it is Ecover and water.

Bear in mind that different detergents have different sudsiness. For instance, if you fill a bucket with water and gg4, suds will form But will disappear in big clumps rather quickly.

Therefore, you’ll have to experiment.[quote=“Jacob1, post:1, topic:41724”]

Buy a boab here.

This is preference.

that much should be VERY sudsy, we add about .5-1 tablespoon per gallon and that is quite sudsy compared to most, more that that and the suds would be ridiculous.

come to think of it, do you have very hard water?

@leavingnc I use tap water which I believe is hard water. I don’t have a vehicle, and because of this I cannot transport large amounts store bought pure water, nor a filtration system (that I know of). I currently use a bicycle. Is the difference that much? If so, what are my alternatives, with the above in mind?

Not all tap water is hard.I use customers tap water everyday and have no issues.Like bubbles said you ll have to experiment to find the right mix of solution that suits you or the current job you are working on.

No need to use “pure water” for traditional window cleaning (squeegee and mop)…tap water is fine. Different people have different preferences when it comes to suds…you will figure out what works for you. If you carry a squirt bottle, just a small bit (no real need to measure) of dawn or whatever soap you use should suffice. If you want, you can always add a drop or two of soap directly to your wet mop / strip washer to get more bubbles and the extra glide / slip that goes with it. With that said, this is just my opinion, and there are a ton of different opinions when it comes to what goes in your water…gg3, gg4…Dawn, Joy, eCover…Aldi hand soap, vinegar, laundry detergent pods…bottom line is, your wet mop will agitate / lift the dirt off the glass and suspend it in the water, and your squeegee blade will remove the water from the glass.

That’s what I do. My bucket just has plain water for rinsing and re-wetting. I carry a tiny 2oz soap bottle and add a drop or two on the sleeve as needed.

the reason i ask is because the harder your water, the less suds the same amount of soap will make. we have relatively low tds (50-100) so the same amount of soap here will be quite sudsy compared to somewhere where the tds is 400-500

You guys are funny with your 2 tablespoons full. Just put a couple of squirts in , an if you need/like more add anther squirt.

The only thing I measure is my gg4 cause it’s hard to tell if it’s enough or to much.

I went to cooking school An with seasoning stuff a chef once told me you could always add you could never take out.
Just my take on this soap thing. Don’t mean to insult.:v:

Btw been using Ecover for about 4 years now an just went back to dawn for a little bit again eCoverage is much better in my opinion hate dawn
I jace about 15 bottles left. Man I hope the new Exocet is as good as the old.
I’ll be ordering some of the new soon just to check it out.

That’s what my crew chief always said when I was learning to set tile. Except he was talking about cement.

33 oz dawn 33 oz gg4 33oz simple green or 33 oz Ecover
Mix in one bottle two table spoons per gal. or so

Why are you using vinegar?

I don’t understand complicated concoctions. Soap + water. If it’s got hot sun on the glass add some gg4. How much gg4 depends on how much you want to spend because it’s more expensive than dawn.

If the windows have super greasy fingerprints, wipe them first with a damp microfiber.

I heard that vinegar cuts grease very well, and you don’t need much of it. Water, Dawn, and vinegar seems pretty basic, and since I have it I may as well use it. I also have some dollar store Sparkle n’ Shine leftover from house use.

Dawn gets grease out of your way.

More the merrier? lol

@Jacob1 how’s things going for You?

I call it a chemical cocktail. I like soap…Dawn or Joy, Cheap. I add a bit of ammonia…I think it adds sparkle. I like some drug store isopropyl alcohol…helps evaporation. Lots of dirt? More soap for float. Hot? Less alcohol. Ammonia? Grease…fingerprints lifter. Try, fail, adjust. When it looks like the glass isn’t there…Nervana… for this I live.
