Cleaning solution

I searched and searched on the forum and even YouTube but can’t find the answer anymore. I’m trying to figure out how much Dawn to add to like 3 gallons of water for a solution. Everyone else seems to be using the different additives such as GG4 and stuff. Sorry about asking such a simple question. Just need a ballpark amount so I can test around that amount to see what works best for me

depends on humidity.

but i use a half of shot glass for 5 gallons.

Put one line in (from bucket end to bucket end) and try it. If the squeegee doesn’t slip add another line. If you get hella suds, then take a line out.

I use more. I am under the impression that soap adheres to dirt molecularly and once it’s used up, your pretty much ready for new. You can stretch the mileage but it’s most effective when the soap is “empty” @Henry loves this subject, maybe he can chime in?

I use about one ounce of Dawn to a gallon of water. I use a small two gallon bucket set on a plant stand so I don’t have to bend over. Too much more than this creates too much sudz. I have tried the other syn-det families like the nonionics, cationics, and amphoterics. Never did the zwitterionics (too pricey!). Dawn is based on two anionics Sodium Laureth Sulfate and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. The biggest problem with the other families is they tend to leave more of a film. Especially on darker glass in the direct sun. I wanted to play with an anionic superwetter based on a silicon chemicstry not carbon. Never got there. But Dawn works OK.

The way I do it is…

I don’t add soap to my bucket or squeeze bottle I just wet my mop or Fliq pad and a drop at each end ( And I mean a “drop”) to each end of my sleeve or Fliq pad. Then I’m good to go for a good while, then normally all I have to do for a while is re wet them and add a drop of soap as needed.

Hope this helps.

I don’t even mix in a bucket anymore. I only keep bucket water to rinse my dirty mop when it gets too dirty.

In a bottle of water I mix a few drops of dawn until the water just barely runs off the glass after scrubbing.

Those are two different ways. You both have inspired me to change. I have been wanting to eliminate the bucket altogether for a long time. Comes Monday I will give it a go! Thanx.

I agree with the rinse bucket concept. Working for extended periods of time and not rinsing the filth out of the mop seems wrong to me. I carry a solution bottle on my belt and use it all day long but I think the mop and my spong and my sill cloth all need to be rinsed out regularly. I guess 15 minutes sometimes less.

Is most of your route work monthly or weekly? Just curious…

It’s 80% every 4wks. Sometimes is goes five weeks. I use the GG4 so my customers windows resoil slowly. They are usually a tad bit dirty not bad. None of my accounts need weekly service because of the GG4 detergent.

PS
My rinse bucket has cleaning solution in it not plain water.

For 3 gallons start off with 3 small squirts. If you need more add another squirt if it was to much to your liking add a little more water. Now ya know where you should be with 3 gallons of water.

I mix in my 5 gallon buckets. I worked out of the bucket for route work. I use squeeze bottles, but not predominantly
