Cleaning the glass behind ornamental security doors

Hi Folks. Never thought I would join a window cleaning community, but I need help. No professional here, just a homeowner. Bought a new home about 2 years ago that has eight really beautiful exterior “security doors” I guess you would call them. They are glass, but they have really intricate and fancy wrought iron frames in front of them. You cannot clean the glass except by sticking your rag between all the little holes in the wrought iron, and there are dozens of them in each door. Do they make a product that you can just spray on and it will drip down and clean the glass without all the handwork? I tried the drip-off chandelier cleaner, but it didn’t seem to work too well on the doors. Thanks for any advice.

Does the glass possibly open from the inside to clean. Some do and some do not.

There should be some latches.
Look for “hinge” looking things.
They can be hidden decoratively
There will be some type of latch/ catch on the top bottom, and opposite side of the decorative hinge
Good luck
Pax

I just slide my squeegee behind the bars

I agree. On new homes, most local fire codes require that there be some way to open bars to facilitate getting out through window in the event of a fire.

these bars on the outside ?.. if you can use plenty of water… try spraying it down with pure water… scrub , wash , wipe the surface … ( whatever ) with a little ecover… instead of squeegeeing ( which is probably very difficult or impossible to do right ) then just rinse off with sprayer with pure water… catch any water thats not needed on the floor etc with something to mop it up like the appropriate cloth towel etc … should dry spotless if you have washed and rinsed correctly …

Hi,

Did you ever find a solution for cleaning the glass on your doors? I have those same doors and had no luck. Let me know.

Thanks,

Jeannette

If you are looking for the"homeowner solution", spray it with a foaming glass cleaner and scrub with a long fiber brush (like for a car), rinse the glass cleaner away with clean water, then do a final rinse with a spray bottle filled with distilled water and just let it air dry.

Would this solution work on a wrought iron mirror? It’s so pretty but has been a nightmare to clean. Below is a picture of the mirror…thank you in advance!

I have wrought iron security doors at my home. Same problem cleaning the glass behind them. I ordered “Full Crystal” as seen on TV. Works GREAT! Go to BuyFullCrystal.com

Does it just drip dry? I can’t really get behind the design to get every part.

Yes. You need to take it outside and spray with your garden hose and it will drip dry and get everything you can’t reach through the iron. If you want to email me, I will send you a pic of my doors… [email protected]

try chandelier cleaner for the decorative part, too bad the decorative metal doesn’t just lift off, that would have been a way better design for maintenance

if rust wont be an issue, i’d just take it outside and run DI water and boars hair brush over it and let air dry
