Colder climates

Hi Guys,
I have to ask those guys that are working in colder climates.
First of all I’m located in San Diego, but lately I have been doing too many residential windows that haven’t been cleaned 10+ years

Yesterday I did house that had ocean view, windows were trashed and the lady told me whey haven’t been cleaned 12 years. She wasn’t even hiding it.
I do many houses like that…
Is that normal that somewhere where snows people can wait that long?
I mean anywhere you live where is a winter you must be getting those people every year back on the schedule even more mostly because of the winter, I’m right.
I guess that is not the case here in So Cal. It doesn’t rain here much either. People can live here with dirty windows for many years believe me…

Thanks

We get people that haven’t had their windows done in as much as 7-10 years. Once we do them though they want them to stay clean so they may schedule as often as every 6 months or as far apart as 2 years. Depends on the client.

I believe that is mostly a personal preference (customer’s) than a weather thing.

Windows get dirty no matter where, is up to the owner to keep them clean, or just avoid looking outside.

snow and cold weather will not dirty glass but rather spring, pollen, construction, and wind swept rains will.

The other thing is that people in cold weather places (like warm weather places) move. You sometimes have people who live in a house for years that don’t care about the windows and then sell the house, and the new owner does.
I had this house I did last spring the previous owners probably never cleaned the windows, gutters or anything outside. The windows were so bad that nobody realized the big dog from the previous owners had completely scratched the lower half of the French door windows going into the back yard.

So good to hear I’m not the only one who has super irregular clientele and houses that have not been cleaned in years.
One of my customers just asked me what i thought when she decided to skip her winter clean. I said that it was up to her and that it depends on budget and personal standard.
I was out doing my own windows that afternoon and I started to think why do I do my own in winter. And then all the answers and reasons to the questions I could have asked her came to me.
Like In winter the sun sits lower so you notice clean glass more.
In winter it’s nice to have as much light inside as you can.
Clean glass allows more heat from the sun to come in saving $ on heating.
In winter you have more rain and as clean glass is slippery it rinces better giving good value.

Any more please?

Well, Marinus and Mateo, one of my customers said to me that being as the weather was worse in the winter, the windows would get dirtier, so it was more important to clean the windows regularly in the winter than the summer!..it takes all sorts.
However, perhaps due to all the rain, people have their windows cleaned every month or two here in the UK. From what I can gather, it is cheaper to have your windows cleaned here than the States. Perhaps that is because they get done regularly. Personally I wont have customers that want their windows cleaning less than once a month, so I find it hard to believe that people are messing you around so much…unheard of!!
My advice is to go live in a rainy climate!!!
