Commerical Route

I have a guy offering to sell me a $10,000 account for $1,000.00. All commercial work. He is looking to retire, and I want to look at his accounts to make sure I won’t be working for free. If everything is OK! is that a good price

If everything is OK, that’s a fantastic price. Opinions about what a route is worth vary widely. It’s been my personal experience that most sell their route work for what it generates in 3 - 6 months.

But, I’d bet it’s low priced work. Those who have accounts that are priced well will charge accordingly when offering for sale. Those who have low priced work will also try to sell the account for a low price.

Also, what are you getting? Are you getting the business name? Or, is it just a route list? Is it work that is under contract? Will the current guy stick around long enough to introduce you to the customer?

It’s definitely worth checking out.

I have heard three months revenue many times. I spoke with my CPA when I sold my first window cleaning business and that was the price 25 years ago. 3 months.

Yea that sounds like a decent price you should check into it. Right now I have my routes for sale. I want to concentrate fully on residential and low rise. We are asking about 9 months value… But it comes with vehicles employees, equipment etc.

You should look into it for sure.

Sounds too good to be true to me. I never understood why these one man bands don’t keep the account and just hire people to manage the office and do the work. To me that’s retirement. Sitting on a boat owning a business that other people manage is retirement. Unless you are rich. If you know the name of the company, wait for the guy to retire and then contact them. Most of the “RETIRE” guys wanted to retire last year and eventually they just drop everything when they have a hard time selling.

That is an extremely low price. Why is it so low? That is the question.
