Costa Rica!

Hey guys,

I'm in Costa Rica right now visiting for some possible future mission work with my wife. While I have been here I have been surprised by the types of homes and structures around San Jose. It appears as if window cleaning would be a tough business to star here.

There are many large hotels and things, but most homes have bars on the windows. Does anybody know anyone cleaning windows in Central America ? Is it even an industry here? Seems like USA and Europe are probably 99% of the window cleaners.

Maybe it's just not important in other cultures? I have no idea so forgive my ignorance.....but I am curious.

birdsbeware I was wondering the same thing when I was in Cabo last month because there are a lot of nice home with lot’s of windows, don;t think the people with bars care about window cleaning though.

Yeah it would be a tough sell. I lived in Costa Rica for 2 years, and I have friends that own a property management company. Average wage for maintenance workers (maids, repairmen, etc.) is around $3 an hour. Beautiful country though.

Its almost impossible to get citizenship and to start a business down there. We love it there though. My wife and i want to be snowbirds down there at some point. Probably around tamarindo.

Actually not that difficult to get citizenship there as long as you qualify it is just very time consuming, one ways is a “Pensionada” either with a pension $1000+ per month (maybe per person), or the equivalent of that times 5 years deposited in a Costa Rican bank I believe this is call “Rentista.” You can also invest a large amount of money in a business and that gives you status as well. One of the biggest problems of running a business down there is you can only manage, your not allowed to physically do work yourself, you must hire Costa Ricans. Tamarindo rocks that’s where I lived (well actually Langosta, one mile south).

Pura Vida

I believe we have shipped supplies there…

enjoy the trip!

I lived there for 4 years (Tamarindo Area). I don’t believe you could make a liveable wage-Jimmy D is right on with his comments plus supplies would be hard to find and expensive.

Really?? That’s awesome. I wonder if it was to a janitorial supply company or to a small window cleaning company? There are a lot of hotels down here and I’m sure someone is doing their windows!

Well, off to the jungle to see some monkeys! Lol
