I have www.123.com permanently redirected to www.main-site.com for a specific promotion, and I was trying to track my results counting the visits to that 123.com site. Now I have only 1 visit which is my own, but at the end of the report I have the 301 statistics showing a different amount of hits.
How do you track this visits on a 301 permanent redirect ?
I have to make a splash page at least to make things easier, but is always good to know even when you are aware of a different solution.
I know I’m probably reading my report wrong or not paying attention to something, I’ve tried looking for info on the web bit as a bit confusing.
keep in mind that hits and visits are not the same.
“hit” is not a visitor to the web site, but a hit on the web server. A hit on the web server can be a graphic, java applet, the html file, etc. So, if a site has 79 small graphics on the page, every visitor to the site registers as 80 hits on the server
I appreciate the explanation Doug, I knew the difference, no so clearly but got the idea they were both different. Now, about the 301 redirect ? Any idea ?
I thought about that, but to install analytics you have to insert a code on your page, and I don’t have a page for that site. That code needs to be on every page you want to track.
