Thanx for the compliments guys. But nope. Never really did the study thing. I’ve always been way too lazy for that. So I just collect books and pick at it. Got some nice books though. When I was in my thirties I never imagined the internet. The informational resources available to anyone now are fantastic. I really do wish I had the time to go back to school. Just too busy cleaning windows. With a couple hundred stores I am very busy.

Just a quick thought before I go to bed. I am thinking somewhat fuzzy. But. Here is a question for you. Exactly what kind of information about window cleaning solutions would you like to have? What do you really want to know? And why? I can get anything you want. We can do anything you want to do. I mean you guys just would not believe the stuff that’s out there! We are talking soaps that cost thousands of bux per gallon. There are chems that will change the chemistry of glass surfaces;…on contact. It is totally c r a z y. So talk to me.

Havn’t had any problems with a very low concentration of sodium hydroxide. Remember guys that Dawn has not more than 1% sodium hydroxide. So I am just boosting it a bit. But I can’t use too much. Otherwise it does dry out my sking too much. And can give me chemical burns. I just boost a very little. NOT suggesting anyone else do this. You all know I’m a little on the nutzy side. Yeah Bob. gnarly is right. What I really really want to do is find a way to use different abrasives on the strip washer. Like I did find a urea plastic abrasive that dug off that shotgun fungi or artillery spores from wood chips. Coupled with a synthetic silica like what is used in the Mr Clean magic sponge would be a great combo.

Oh yeah, it does make the rubber seal of the window bleed black. But we have a commercial product being sold now that causes this same problem and also gave me some bad chemical burns. I am thinking as Bumble says watch the Ph.

Hey Alex,

Not talking about TSP. Rather a brand name product that has a fantastic sales history.

And Andy, you got it right! Sodium Hydroxide is EVIL. Be VERY careful with it. Nitril gloves are a great idea. You gotta watch rubbing your eye too. Its easy to do if you have an itch. Real bad news.

Regarding slip. The amphoterics typically have good slip. To get more you need chems such as TSP, or sodium metasilicate (water glass), or sodium hydroxide, or potassium hydroxide. I want to read up on the esters. I was thinking of getting back into window cleaning formulas again. Maybe even starting an entire Facebook page on the subject.

My dad keeps telling me water glass is good to store eggs in for months into the winter. That’s what the old timers did. Where do you find all these chemicals?

Hey Fast,

Never tried storing eggs with it. Very interesting. I picked up mine from a company over in Bow NH at a zirconia factory. It is a byproduct of the plasma arc. But there are chemical supply houses like Spectrum Chemical located in CA and Jersey. I would love to start a Facebook Group on this topic. Probably will. Use caution guys. I don’t want to kill anyone. Dismemberment isn’t a good thing either ya know. Skin has a use.

Just buy a bottle of it, but continue using dawn. She won’t see you add the dawn, but you have her “special soap” to prove that you met her request. I love dawn!
