Dawn Platinum

This is not about what soap is best…we know how those threads go…

Just Saw ‘Dawn Platinum’ supposed to power away stuck on food. Anyone tried it?

Thought it might be good for stuff that has been baked on by the sun.

I was just about to post something about this too! I was at Ralph’s with my wife and saw this and wasn’t sure the difference or if there was any. Also, I saw dawn non-concentrate, any idea?

I buy dawn 2x ultra from Walmart and it works great

Yeah Im getting that 2x in the 5 gallon pale to save on trips to the store and plastic waste. It’s not much cheaper though. I always wondered about the non concentrate but I’m guessing you might need to add more?

I have a feeling 2x is the same as the original, but re-branded. I can’t tell a difference.

On another note, I was doing one of my new restaurants today, and the owner asked what I use for solution. Usually I say “an ancient secret Chinese formula”, but could tell she was serious. I said dish soap and water for storefronts and restaurants. She replied “what kind of dish soap?” I said Dawn. She said “I don’t think that’s environmentally friendly. I’m pretty sure it’s not biodegradable.” I said, “I’ll use Ecover next time”. She said “Can you use Seventh Generation instead?” I said… “yea… whatever you want.”

I don’t want to buy all this random dish soap for restaurants here. Every one seems to want a ‘greener’ solution.

I have used it on one window on my house it seems good. But I have not used it on really dirty windows

I agree somewhat. You can tell her, actually, it is environmentally friendly. Every time an oil spill happens in the ocean the clean up crews use it to clean oil off of the oil drenched ducks. So, yes, it is environmentally friendly…

Just tell her it’s what they used to get oil spills off of the ducks and wildlife up in alaska so that’s why you use it. If it’s good enough for a duck, it’s good enough for me.

But yeah, I don’t buy into the whole ultra platinum concentrate 4x stuff. I’m not sure it’s that much difference so I just buy what’s cheap. Maybe Henry can comment on the lab spectrometer analysis of the concentrate vs ultra vs platinum, etc.

The only reason I like Ecover is because of the smell. It smells great! I don’t notice any other difference in quality. Where I live, It’s $6 a small bottle. I can get a liter of Dawn for that.

The little things add up. I’d be buying a new truck now if it weren’t for all this money I’m spending on soap (FastFanner) j/k. Thanks for the oil spill information.

Tell her they have the worlds most environmentally friendly soap it just adds $5 to her cost. She will tell u to just use the same stuff

I guess it’s just the stage of business you’re in. Don’t get me wrong I was there. I started with nothing but a good work ethic and a hell of an urge to rub cash in between my fingers. So, yeah these nice new trucks have serious sweet seats plus phones in the steering wheel. Dunno, something for you to work towards I guess… I have to admit I don’t have the kind of rent you have. My house is paid for… It might be hard but financing is an option… This thing brought me a ton of business already. People comment on how nice it is all the time. Oh shit, back to dawn. We don’t want the mods to think I’m hijacking threads again…

Haven’t tried Platinum yet or done any research on it. I just use the cheapest Dawn concentrate that I can find. Then I boost with 100% sodium hydroxide crystals. A half teaspoon to three gallons of water.

Always wanted to do the research on green syn-dets however. The most mild I have discovered is cocamidopropylbetaine. It doesn’t cut grease very well. To fix that I add my SKRUB. Which is a treated microcrystalline synthetic silica powder suspended in glycerin. About a tablespoon per gallon works for me. But like I say. I just go for whats cheap, easy to get, and works real good.

Henry

you guys use soap;

Ha, yes well it is a novel idea that’s why I’m poling everyone:)

Does the sodium hydroxide destroy your hands? Does it effect paint or stain at such a low concentration?

Alright so I bought the soap and tried it out today, here’s what I think.

The soap suds up real nice on the window. Also, the gritty feeling when you first start scrubbing and then smooths out after you have broken all that junk off. It seemed like I got to that point in just a couple of strokes, so it seemed like it did help break up the dirt.

It is more expensive about $4-5 a bottle where I got it, but I also noticed it seemed to last a lot longer, then the regular stuff so cost is probably pretty negligible.

I would really like to see what it does to artillery spores. The place I worked today didn’t have much.

And finally I think it smells pretty good.

My thoughts exactly. Lye is pretty gnarly stuff

BobWasHere

Havn’t had any problems with a very low concentration of sodium hydroxide. Remember guys that Dawn has not more than 1% sodium hydroxide. So I am just boosting it a bit. But I can’t use too much. Otherwise it does dry out my sking too much. And can give me chemical burns. I just boost a very little. NOT suggesting anyone else do this. You all know I’m a little on the nutzy side. Yeah Bob. gnarly is right. What I really really want to do is find a way to use different abrasives on the strip washer. Like I did find a urea plastic abrasive that dug off that shotgun fungi or artillery spores from wood chips. Coupled with a synthetic silica like what is used in the Mr Clean magic sponge would be a great combo.

Oh yeah, it does make the rubber seal of the window bleed black. But we have a commercial product being sold now that causes this same problem and also gave me some bad chemical burns. I am thinking as Bumble says watch the Ph.

Henry

I’m thinking you are one of the most knowledgable soap/chemical guys around… Did you study chemistry? Thanks for your input…
