I was wondering if there is a limit to the amount of times you can get the resin recharged. The reason I ask is because one of my tanks seem to be running out faster than the other. One of my tanks seems to go bad after a couple weeks, while the other can last for a month or more. The one that runs out faster is also older than my other one, thats why I suspect it couls not hold a charge as long. If this is the case do I just need to get new resin in the tank? Thanks
Are you running a 2 tank system?
Maybe Bill can answer this, but I believe that when they regen the resin, it has to be seperated, and to do that, they have to remove the resin from the tank. They regen the resin in bulk, then refill the tank.
It could be that the company is not properly regenerating the resin. Don’t be afraid to ask the Di rental place why you’re not getting as many gallons out of the tank.
Im using just one tank.
I may question the company that regenerates them so that they know that I’m having this problem and so I can learn more about the process. Also, would you guys recomend i add and RO unit. I feel like it would pay for itself rather quickly. P.S. my TDS is around 350.
If you can swing it RO would be a good investment at that tds.
If you use approx 1000 gallons per month an RO could pay for itself in 4 months or less. You’d be crazy not to get one!
If the di tank is a small one 3 feet or less you need to put an 40psi
limiter valve on it so you are not runing to much water flow though it.

Not to hijack this thread but I have been considering an RO unit as a pre-filter to my DI tank. Then I read in another thread that all I would really need is a carbon sediment filter. I am considering this. My question is, if I have an average TDS of 350 to 400 in my area how much longer will each tank last gallon wise?
Whoever said that doesn’t know what they’re talking about (No disrespect intended). A carbon sediment filter will no make much difference to the output TDS at all, and therefore will make almost no difference to resin life.
RO’s are cheap, simple to setup, and save $1000’s in the long run.
There is no limit to how many times you can recharge resin. the problem is over time the beads in the tank can crack and won’t hold a charge as long. I would say you need some new resin if you are having problems.
