Yeah, I don’t get the whole high rise thing. Much kudos to you guys who can do it but gravity likes me way too much for me to sit in a little seat like that.

Mike Rowe just did an interview with men’s journal . It’s really interesting , specially for us window guys

Here a a quote from it

MIKE ROWE CONCLUDES THAT WE’RE LENDING MONEY WE DON’T HAVE TO KIDS WHO CAN’T PAY IT BACK TO EDUCATE THEM FOR JOBS THAT NO LONGER EXIST.

That’s what I keep telling my wife…our kids will be better off not going to college and becoming plumbers, electricians…etc. plus they won’t get brainwashed by liberals. She’s not taking it well, an out of the box type thinker.

Yeah, I’m from the generation where you were expected to go to college. I was the first in my family to get an advanced degree. But after working as an engineer for 13 years and starting my own window cleaning business, I’m fine if my son doesn’t want to go to college.

Especially after seeing what types of engineers colleges are graduating these days. Their self-esteem is through the roof, but their reasoning skills are nonexistent. I knew I was a pale version of the engineers of old, but today’s engineers… dang.

After spending nearly half my life in a little seat like that, gravity doesn’t scare me…
OSHA regulations, cutthroat competition, and ‘wannabe’ Despot property managers does.

Great show and great article from Mike Rowe. This guy sees the world like I do.

If I remember right, the owner is a member, here.

Ernie, right?
Same guy who was on “The Drop?”

I have so much respect for the guys that do high rise work! I got so nervous watching that

Dino is his name. Nice guy. He helped me out with a job a few years ago.
It’s always interesting to see how other companies do high rise work. Different gear preferences etc…
I think he made that aerial transfer in the show more complicated than it needed to be. Not sure why he uses the srt descender. Just an over priced Petzl id to me. No tool bungees for the new guy…
Not sure if Dino is on this forum but Im sure he could teach me some things. Whenever we have an experienced guy come on our crew we learn other ways to do things. Great thing about wcr. I wish there were more high rise threads here though.

My old boss wanted me to learn an do bosun chair work for him . No way no how I told him nobody could pay me enough . 5 piece ladder work yes cherry picker yes . He respected it I think  . There are certain things I just wouldn’t do. He did this job once with rolling scaffolding it was I forget how high he was going . He did get pissed at this one I wasn’t going to go up there I wasn’t comfortable, an I didn’t care either what he thought . To me the two guys that did go up hey god bless them I didn’t need to prove anything to anybody . I really thought he wasn’t going to use me anymore after that , but he did .

Oddly enough, I personally feel like chair work is safer than ladder work.

I should clarify that I said “chairwork” and NOT stage work.
I back, Majestic66 in his mindset with that… stage work sucks, I hate it, I’ll never do it again.

At least chairwork threads.
Most of my life was eating breakfast, lunch and sometimes dinner…
literally straddling a parapet wall with a hanging from my shoulder.

While I’m years removed from that, I still get a little giddy talking about it.

 • kind of miss it, sometimes.

I agree, and I think the stats prove you right.

I’ve always said I’d like to try chair work just once. Then a local guy I know that does it invited me to tag along sometime. All of a sudden I’m having second thoughts!
