Dislocated finger

Hey guys,
about two weeks ago i tried taking down a sectional ladder that didnt have a rope on it to raise / lower it. So I did it the redneck way, get up there while my new partner (first day) held the ladder vertically, pushed it up one rung and the idea was to let it come down gently… well that didnt work out too well…
i pushed the ladder up one rung expecting it to come down but it didnt so i jumped off the ladder (28ft ladder fully almost fully extended, had to go up 3 rungs) cause i didnt know if my partner could hold me for longer. then all of a sudden the top part comes down like a freight train, i try to catch it and somehow my pointer finger gets catched in between, dislocating it, man that hurt like a ************!!

It took the doc 3 times to pull it back into its place cause my finger had slid under my knuckle. The good thing was that it hurt just as bad the finger just sitting there than the doc pulling but still, it hurt… bad… lol… so i started working again the day after trying to use only my left hand but before i knew it i was using my right hand again. we’re now two weeks later and i still cant use my hand to the fullest. so my question is: Did any of you have a dislocated finger before and how long did it take to go back to normal?

Soft tissue damage takes longer to heal than a break in a bone. It could take 6 to 8 weeks before you get full use back. Also beware that it will dislocate much more easily, and painfully now. I hope you heal up quickly

Using ladders or any equipment that is not in proper working condition is FAIL! Tell us how using that ladder has saved you time and money…

Now that you have been publically scolded, get the ladder fixed and get back to work!

Thanks for sharing

I don’t understand what you meant by climbing the ladder while tearing it down… Sounds like you were asking for an accident. I hope you get better soon.

I know it was stupid but I’m sharing this with you guys bc sometimes we think we can get away with doing something the wrong way and be fine but we actually know we shouldnt. thats when crap like this happens… it coulda broke my wrist/hand, i guess is was lucky…
Its just a quick reminder that we need to do things the right way. then we’ll all be fine…

How did you take it apart while climbing it? I don’t understand. Was it leanng against the building?

Good luck on the heal up, Im chronically injured… It stinks.

nope, my partner was holding it vertically, he’s a big guy and balanced the ladder while i quickly went up two rungs, pushed it up one rung (what you usually do with the cord), thats why i jumped off real quick cause i didnt know how long he could hold it. in a normal situation you pull it up one rung and then let it slide down.

what happened?

Oh everything… Ive broken my back, all my fingers, my hand, my arm, knee surgeries, torn rotator cuff… All sorts of stuff. Im constantly hurt and its starting to catch up with me. non window cleaning related of course.

It’s why, to this day, I refuse to help Chris move a piano.

Sounds like your pretty fragile Chris, ill be sure not to shake your hand too hard if i ever meet you…:stuck_out_tongue:

Cedric, man that was a horrible idea, Get a ladder rope at home depot for $10

You could have had your buddy stand on the bottom rung of the ladder while you walk backwards slowly lowering it by grabbing each rung, then un- extend it on the ground…

Chris is indestructible but it doesn’t stop him from trying…
