DIY pole sleeve/cover?

I was messing around with some of my bike stuff over the weekend, pulled out some old mtb inner tubes looked at a diy fiberglass pole I modified to make a short wfp, cut the tube to the size of the first section and slid it on. Does anyone know if there could be any sort of reaction to fiberglass as well as to a carbon fiber pole with a rubber sleeve on it (ie wearing out the outside surface etc…)? I may try to find some large heat shrink tubing to seal top end of pole to keep h2o if it works.

How tight of a fit is it? I think that if something is under constant movement, there’s likely to be some kind of wear- but I would imagine the rubber would wear out, not the pole.
Carbon fiber is reactive with certain metals, such as aluminum, because of the carbon being a conductor, and some other sciency stuff I can’t remember. FG doesn’t have that problem. And I can’t imagine rubber causing any issues… But I’m no expert!

They make heat shrink tubing that is used for building composite (carbon or FG) tubing: http://composites.sollerpaddles.com,carbon-fiber,carbon,fiber,sleeve,fabric (it’s right near the bottom of that page, before the customer comments)
I would buy the untreated heat shrink for what you want to do- that is, if the diameter is large enough for your pole.

Cool find, btw!
