100 window 3 flat condo building that’s 50 years old. Place is a wreck. Dirt is mainly built up on inside of storm windows and Windows on inside. They think just getting the outside done is enough but I know it will only clear the view for the dirt behind it. Thoughts?
Explain to them you can’t only do the outside. Maybe even do one window to demonstrate to them.
Worst case is they flat out refuse to pay after seeing no difference having the cleaning done. Even if they realize the mistake it sounds like they are too cheap to do the whole thing, you will be fighting to make money.
Demo a window to show them there idea won’t work. If they still want to do it require payment up front.

Thanks everyone. I think the demo first is great idea. I agree, they are looking to get somethin for nothing. I’ll make sure to get this in writing!
I agree with everyone. Get a pre-existing condition waiver signed if this job goes through.
Don’t under bid …bid high.
For sure
Everyone has some good points.
Just quote them your price to do the job properly (inside/out of the storms and inside out of the regular pane of glass “4 surfaces”.)
Dont waste your time on a demo.

Got to disagree with this. If there going to go with just outsides am they agree on price. Why not do one window beforehand show them what they get with just outsides.
Better off them when Done you don’t have any problems with expectations . Now I Doudt they will pay up front
One window takes 5 minutes. Not much time wasted.
I guess Mike we’ll have to disagree on this one brother!
Okay dang you Mike I do agree with this part of your post[quote=“Majestic66, post:10, topic:38629”]
expectations

No matter what the OP does he needs to set realistic expectations for the customer.
If they want something for nothing. I would not go back and do demo just tell them in/out price, out only price, money up front for out only and get scratch waiver signed
I would never just do the outside there even if they paid up front. The windows won’t look clean. When someone asks who did the windows they look terrible, you are the one to blame.
Come on man we all can’t agree on everything that is said. That’s no fun.
Don’t do it. I dropped doing any storms this year. Totally worth it.

I think the outer 3 sides of glass are a absolute necessity on this one …tough job but doable for the right money.
Yeah I guess I’m spoiled here. But it also seems like there are a lot of guys not doing them. Ive had competitors try to give me work with storm windows, and I’ve tried to do the same but got shot down.
I do one job with storms because she was one of my first true clients. They are terribly under bid but she refers me like crazy and has me do gutters and her roof 3-4 times a year which is bid very well.
I guess it all depends on if it’s worth it.

I’d mention that your selling the customers end result and thus satisfaction not just the work. If their won’t do them all, they won’t be satisfied. Better they remember you for declining to bid then you doing a “Crappy” job in their eyes. A demo window would definitely help I think.
