Do you consider a putty knife to be a razor?

I don’t. Why am I wrong?
I should have said that this is for the scraping windows GANA vs. common sense debate

I know some who use a broad knife (6" compared to a 2" or smaller putty knife) to remove post construction debris. Is that what you are referring to?

Right, Tony. Actually, both. Have you seen Dan Fields’ CCU video? I think the only razor he uses in construction cleanup is the one he keeps in a handy little bracelet on his arm. I should have used broad knife instead of putty knife in the thread title
Can I edit that? For curiosity purposes, do you consider Broadknives to be razors?
Thanks,
vic

They serve similar functions and if I were doing CCU day in and day out I’d probably go w/ the broad knife. For what we do I prefer to use a razor. I wouldn’t use the term broad knife and razor interchangeably. I wonder though if that would be a loop hole in GANA’s No Razor sticker? A broad knife isn’t technically a razor.

Dan tells the viewer to sharpen the broad knife with a file, making it flat, not sharp!

I wouldn’t use them for removing tape and the like, but it’s definitely the way to go for CCU, in my opinion.
vic

Why? Dan stated that his crew used filed broadknives to avoid scraper/razor cuts.

How much CCU have you completed? What are your plans on pursuing CCU work?

I consider the terms broadknife, scraper, and razor to be equivalent.

Heh, I’ll ask the questions around here

He does, too. I’m going to…

I can’t complete it, until I start it…

From my experience trying to price window cleaning, I have decided I want to do mostly stain and scratch removal. I don’t have a whole lot of extra time at the present as I am mainly a govment custodian. I am presently persuing answers for my post govment questions.

And Mr. Tony Squeegee said:

OK, now go to your corners and come out swinging
This is supposed to be entertaining, enlightening and edumacational…
Why doesn’t GANA restrict broad knife use on glass? Maybe because they are dull?
Double entendre intended. I’ll ask the questions around here

I carry all the above in my toolbox and I use the one I think will best fit the job I am doing

If it craps like a duck, it’s a duck.

Try explaining to a court that a filed broadknife is nothing like a scraper or razor, even if the manufacturer didn’t place it on the Do Not Use list (they didn’t list a machete either, eh?)

Hellooooo Mr. Vic-ster,

When I started cleaning windows 31 years ago, the broad knife is the tool I was initiated with… Actually it’s a well working tool when filed flat and not like a knife edge.

Used it until around 82 when we started using the Triumph 6" razor, which I now use on any kind of scraping job ! I think using a broad knife now is sort of like using a Model-T with a 4 cylinder flat head engine, compared to a new 2010 gas powered v8 !

I still have one in my work chest ready to be used but I haven’t used it for well maybe 26 years, and it’s the same one I started with years ago !

Now if I had to I could get it up and running in a minute or two, filing it flat is key !

You Know, I think it would scratch glass as much as a razor would, if there was Fabricating debris on the glass !

A razor works much more efficiently in ALL aspects of scraping glass !

Just my experience ! Given to me by " THE SONS OF ETTORE " !

Mr. Vic-ster

Another point I’d like to make is;
A broad knife is NOT A RAZOR ! A razor is not a BROAD KNIFE. Even though they both can be used as scrapers ! Now if you turn your squeegee around you can use the top of your channel as a scraper, another trick or element given to me by " THE SONS OF ETTORE " !

Now would you call your channel a razor if you used it as a scraper ? Of course not !

Dangerous / with the RAZOR SCRAPER

Ive used one a putty knife on a couple of occasions when I some how lost or forgot my scraper. Just picked one up at the hardware store in my travels…

It could be a goose

Is that you, Gary?

Heh, that’s pretty similar to what Gary Mauer told me in an email, Larry.
Great minds think alike…

Don’t make me fly up there, Vic.

LOL!
Hey, Larry, see you next year!
