When cleaning sliding windows weather they are vertical or horizontal are you people opening the windows and cleaning the horizontal tracks while the windows are open and closed ?
Or just in the closed position ?
There can be a lot of stuff hidden in the closed window position, as well many windows are stubborn and dont want to operate the way they are intended.
Open, close, whatever it takes to clean them tracks out. I’ll even lift out panes, but second story wouldn’t be fun to do that. Depends on what customer wants. Perfect = $$. Lifting panes out on a second story, make perfect, put back in = $$$. Example: First story, short clean, slide back and forth a couple times: $10. Second story, remove panes, make perfect, re-insert panes, clean glass, $20. That’s me. That’s what I’d charge.
When the customer opens their window after a complete in and out clean they don’t expect to see general dirt and bug dirt. Don’t have to do a “deep clean” unless that is what was sold, but delivering a complete clean for in/out by brushing loose with a track brush, and paintbrush if needed, and vacuum is warranted.
Yea, phone on the charger, home sick yesterday and today. Ugh.
Standard pricing is pretty much what your area can handle - $6-$8 per pane side of each slider; $2-$3 for tracks; $3-$5 for screens. Some slider screens can lift out, others need the rollers to be loosened in order to lift out, then readjusted to roll again upon reinstall. It just depends.
We’ll wipe out the track on single, double hung and slider windows, but we do not open casement windows unless specified by the customer. We’ve had too many break over the years just by unlocking them and/or trying to crank them open.
Its common sense at the end of the day if the window is in a functional condition not rusted nor pained shut then I would, I have had one customer several years ago who actually took out the slider in front of me and asked me why I had not wiped down the top of the slider that a sits behind the frame… My reply was " well if you wanted that kind of detail you should have asked for it" she replied with " I made sure when you came to quote I was cleaning, didn’t you see that I was lifting all my furniture to make sure EVERYTHING was clean." I replied “I was here assessing the glass not your cleaning procedures”
Beauty of Texas - hardly anyone opens their windows. I don’t open any windows unless necessary for some reason for cleaning. Unless the customer specifically requests it, I dont worry about tracks except for the screens.
Lucky dog. Here it’s bugs, pollen, sand, dirt, cobwebs…love my magic eraser pads. They make me look good. Still trying to perfect how to clean sharp corners…cleaning 404.
I don’t open casement windows either. Years ago I cranked one open, then it wouldn’t crank back shut completely. After that, I refuse to open any casement windows. Customers understand.
Same here. I let the customer know we are glass cleaners. We will wipe up what water drips pff the window but i dont really get into housekeeping tracks of windows. We could and have a few times but my customers dont really care about the tracks. I do notice today customers 65 + in age care about cleaning the tracks.
I include sill/track/screens with the window cleaning charge. Most people here don’t like to be nickel and dimed with various ‘options’ and would rather have peace of mind knowing I will get the whole window looking good. Many people tell me they had “x window cleaning company” come out and their expectations fell short. I’m the guy that corrects their screwups.
That being said, I do get the occasional “will you get the frames” and tell them I will brush off the cobwebs, but don’t really spend serious time on the surrounding area.
