Do you have a system in place?

S = save
Y = your
S = self
T = time
E = energy
M = money

When you head out the door for the day, or get out of your vehicle and set up for the job, or run your errands to the bank and restock on supplies - do you think about saving steps, time, and energy in all that you do?
Some days can be quite busy while others it doesn’t really matter, other than an annoyance of forgetting something.
So, do you have a system in place to be efficient to save yourself time energy and money?

No real computer systems here. But the total sum of the window cleaning process has been fine tuned into a “system” to maximise efficiency. Nothing real fancy.

Delagate responsibilities, everyone must know their role at the shop loading equipment and on each work site.

I work alone and I still have systems in place. When I decide to wing it I always regret it because my regular way of doing things is so efficient. All muscle memory now and it just flows.

That is pretty much me too. I have a regular efficient way of doing things, and when I waver from it it pisses me off because I lose focus. lol

What type of systems are you winging?

How is it making you less efficient?

My own slip ups. I usually set all needed gear at or near my work area before I start.
Occasionally my mind is elsewhere and I kick myself for making extra trips to the van.

I always move my gear as I move along on the job and systematically load it back in the van as I finish up. If I stop for a drink I use that time to put away what I’m not using. Also, I do the hardest parts of the job first then put away that gear, then finish out the rest of the job with minimal gear at that point.

My system is based around an organized truck and shop as much as it is dialed into an efficient style cleaning process. I clean a lot of commercial glass so knowing how the process unfolds thoroughly from start to finish is just as important as knowing where everything is. It saves me time, loading and unloading, giving more time for cleaning on site.

Finally kicked myself into gear on organization this year and it has really paid off in terms of time saved at home and on the job. I got out of my truck yesterday, suited up, and went right to work. I was thinking as I was putting on my belt about how easy it is to go to a job, grab my gear, and head right in. I believe being organized and educated on the process is a solid base system for myself as an owner operator and I think it’s helped me to become more efficient, less stressed, and higher paid.

My biggest time savers are

  • clean up truck on Sunday evening
  • get to job site 15 minutes early
  • bring your lunch and drinking water
  • bring your bucket with water ready to work
  • limit phone usage
