Does a Window Cleaning Company in CA need a Contractor's License?

I have been doing business in California since 1999. We do window cleaning, gutter cleaning and pressure washing. However, a local friend of mine with a window cleaning business was told that if he did any pressure washing jobs over $500 he needed a contractor’s license. He was also told that he couldn’t advertise that he provided pressure washing unless he stated that he didn’t have a contractor’s license.

Does anybody know if these assertions are true? Does every window cleaning company in California have to have a contractor’s license if they do a job over $500?

Thanks for your help.
