I ahve Been Noticing phone calls Slowing Down And smaller return rate on flyers. Talking to other Window Cleaners in town They Said August is always Slow But Sept Get busy through Fall. Any Other Opinions?
I would agree. It starts slowing down late July through late September. August is the slowest month for us, besides Winter of course.
My Augusts are about like my Aprils-not crazy, but still quite busy. September is typically my slowest warm month. I’m booked solid through the first week of August and partially booked for the 2nd and 3rd weeks.
We got a big slow down earlier this month but the calls started flowing in today, normally August is when things really pick up
Ive Been Slow for TWO Years Never Thought it get this Bad
This Year is a Little Better than the Past Two. Since August 2009
august slows down for us…or am i just finally caught up from spring???
I would have to agree. I always thought July and August would be busy because of the nice weather…but maybe everybody is too busy playing to worry about dirty windows.
This year, in July, sales are under HALF from this time last year. ITS HORRIBLE right now. August has been my best month for 5 years. Right now it ain’t looking so good. Seems like coming off that July 4rth weekend everything screeched to a halt.
Typically it gets slower for me by the end of August so I usually take a week off for holidays. This year I’m taking two weeks. Not because it’s that slow, mostly because I’m burnt out from being so busy this past season.
September is stranely my slowest month of the warmer months like Dan mentioned, then things pick up again in October and November.
P.Wing & window cleaning has slowed down for me as well. Why does window cleaning business pick up in the fall? I figure why would H.O. worry about dirty window’s in the winter?
2 reasons I can think of right away. People entertain during the winter holidays (Christmas, New Years). Also winter is generaly the darkest months of the year so any extra light coming in is uplifting. plus…people who don’t like dirty windows, don’t like dirty windows.
Good enough reason for me. Thank’s
Our slow down starts the 3rd week in July and runs through the start of school. We have enough repeat business scheduled to work, but the new calls have slowed. I guess peolpe are doing their last vacation things and are buying the back to school clothes and supplies. After schoo; starts, the phone starts ringing again like crazy
I always figured it mainly had to do with children being out of school. June/July they’ve been sceduled for a while, so it seems busier. But once kids are back in school, people back from vacation, etc., etc., things’ll start rollin!
Aug usually starts the slow down into Sept. Then Oct - Dec we are back to being straight out 7 days a week before we lay everyone off for the winter.
I started this month off a little scared as I did not have much booked. It turned out to be better than expected though. Now Im worried about August. We have our routine customers, but not much new business scheduled.
In the UK all our customers are regular, in my case every six weeks, but in the case of most window cleaners, monthly, all year round. Why is this not the case in the U.S?
August is one of my slow months - I think they are too busy enjoying their houses for interruptions of a service nature. That’s the way I like it as well, it gets a little hotter & I like to mellow in the hammock with a beer.
Just like last year, biz completely crapped out in Mid-June, and its been dead all July, but showing some signs of life now.
If last year’s figures hold true, by mid-August I’ll be turning away work
2 things don’t add up though…
-
Last year I got all sorts of PW calls starting in June and lasting til August… this year, I haven’t touched the pressure washer since Memorial Day… all window cleaning.
-
in 2010, the first half of my season, ALL of my calls came from Central NJ, and the second half ALL of my calls came from Northern NJ… this year, its the exact opposite
August is always our busiest month. September it slows down a bit. That sucks Tory, are you doing much marketing?
Me and Wayne are booked like crazy this Summer.
