My wife and I are moving to Seattle soon. I currently do carpet cleaning and have done a few window cleaning on the side. I have thought about getting out of carpet cleaning and focusing on window cleaning. Window cleaning has lower overhead than carpet cleaning. For any of you guys in the Pacific North West, does the rain effect your ability to work? Do people have a different mindset in Portland and Seattle about rain? Here in Southern California people panic when it rains. I just wanted to know if when it rains do you have to reschedule or cancel jobs? Thx
yes it impacts windows.
it was more painful in the early years. With a large enough client base to pull from we are plenty busy. It rains they want gutters, it sunny they want windows before the Easter party, family BBQ. Real Estate is moving up here and when people are selling they feel they have no choice but to complete it no matter the weather.
Any idea where you plan to move?
I’m flying to Seattle May 9 and staying with friends while I look for apartment and work.

I have a new employee he just relocated from Portland and says they commonly wash windows in the rain they wear rain gear otherwise just don’t get much done.
He is really enjoying the fact that we do not wash in the rain and go do interior work instead

I would think carpet cleaning would be a better business in Seattle because of all the rain tracked in.
If you add gutter cleaning and power washing services I think you’ll have plenty to offer during inclement weather. In New England our weather is unpredictable. I can power wash/house wash in the rain and do gutter cleaning, so although rain days are inconvenient work can always be moved around.
I think both businesses are good in Seattle; I was thinking window cleaning would be better, because it has lower overhead.
Thanks for the tips. If I got into window cleaning I would also offer power/soft washing and gutter cleaning.
