Dogear or not to dogear?

So some people dogear ends of squeegee channels.
Others have used purpose made clips.
But there also the people that do not have anything at all done to make the squeegee channel work perfectly.
So what would it be that they are doing differently??

There are many methods to the madness, but to dial in perfection takes time, skill and select tools.
I know a Pro who, mentored me, and has been using the same Unger ergo Tec squeegee for decades. He swears by it and has perfected his technique to the point that he has little to no detailing. Once I relatively mastered my Ettore Pro Plus squeegee I had very minimal detailing, that is until I started dog earing my squeegee blades. After adjusting my technique I achieved no detailing for the edges. Great right! Well, after a while, I noticed that it was difficult to reproduce the perfect dog ear angle for every channel you use. Inconsistent outcomes made me rethink and give the liquidator channel a try (the end clips are a perfect 45*) This changed my world entirely!
Efficiency increased dramatically! I would never go back to a standard squeegee ever.
Hope this experience helps with your question

Dive bombing. Basically an unmodified channel can be detailless if you do it right. Just super steep angle on the sides help push the rubber into the the edge.

What about on windows with beveled edges where overshooting is a problem?

if a square ended rubber is held horizontally it fits into the corner of the glass/frame perfectly. for most residential work in this area that keeps detailing to a minimum. i started using 3m glass cleaner for insides and it also reduces clean up. outsides are always wfp.
i did a storefront the other day with squeegee and the rubber seals required more detailing.

Yeah shout out to @whatapane for showing me how an Ettore brass squeegee can slice edges like a champ with the right technique.

It actually took less time for me to assimilate that technique than to adjust to the liquidator. Does that make any sense?

guess mr steccone had a pretty good idea.

Is the guy that mentored you using an Unger stainless steel channel? Did he do any modifications to it?

I know guys that are very good without doing anything to their channels. Just takes lots of practice.

He does use Unger stainless steel channels. No modifications. Th kind of “good” I’m talking about takes at least 10yrs to master

Very cool. I use the Unger stainless steel channels as well. I started using Ettore rubber in those channels because they last longer. What rubber does he use?

Thanks for sharing.

Same
