does a Domain name make it easier for people to find you as well as rank you better? or does it not matter due to using the right key words?
Example: *** Services or *** Window Cleaning if someone was to google a window cleaner which one would come up first?
Is it important to have the service you provide in your domain name?
I’m interested in what the experts say, but I think that if the google search matches your web address, it’s gotta help. My address is:
if anyone googles “New Albany Window Cleaning”, my url has to help me out.
Having keywords in your domain is not that important. Sure it may help a little.
Far more important than having keywords in your domain is using keywords in
The hypertext linking to your site.
Part of the reason Brennon ranks so well is becuase he has almost 0
compentition competing for his keywords. If the same seo tactics where
Employed in toronto, or san diego, they simply would not do the trick.
Keywords in url, only help a little.
I agree with Doug.
As an example, my company ranks #1 or #2 consistently for my keywords, but doesn’t include the city name in the URL at all.
BUT … little is better than nothing, and it will be easier for people living in your area of service to remember your URL … [town or city]windowcleaning.com
So the domain name is basically just that a name. The shorter and simpler for people to remember the better. I thought that if you are a window cleaner and lets say your company name is A window cleaning I figured that would rank better than lets say if you used A Services instead (no window cleaning in name).
Also i see people saying that adding the location helps is that true?
I’d do the www.aawindowcleaning.com
True
That’s true, like Doug said. “Some” value.
Carlos, for the record, you can grab
www.windowcleaningkaty.com
www.windowwashingkaty.com
right now
They are both available.
But, you seem to have the similar katywindowcleaning.com’s already, which is cool, too
Get out of my private life Kevin
Sorry, just trying to help
Kev, just in case … I was kidding
Yes it does matter. If you don’t belive me then do some searches with these keywords
“new jersey window washing”
“new jersey window cleaning”
“new jersey window cleaner”
“new jersey window cleaners”
The only reason Chris has not over taken me on those keywords in google postion is because of the name of my domain.
BTW you can also juggle those with NJ. You want people to find you with the most common term you believe they are going to use to find you. IE Your town/state/county window cleaners etc. If they are not from your location then it wont matter. Someone from China looking for a window cleaner and you list first for Changs window cleaning, how does that help you?
when i googled newjerseywindowcleaning chris came up first
Also does google pick up nj as new jersey?
I never said I would come up first. Yes google picks up NJ as new jersey. On that note who came up 2nd? Also I don’t know many people who are going to type that, so I’m not sure many visits will come from that phrase.
I would think maybe they would google window cleaner or window cleaning new jersey.
I come up on the first page when you Google window cleaning Iowa or Iowa City or Coralville. The last 2 are my main service areas.
Thats just what you want. Anyone from outside your service area is a waste of time and a phone call. I hate when I see out of state numbers on my phone. 1st I know they called the 800# and I’m going to be charged, 2nd I hate that they say “I only called cause I can’t find a cleaner in my town. I thought you might know someone in the industry who services my town.” I comment to them that if they were in jersey I could help out, but by the time I find them someone they could find someone with a little deeper search on google faster then I could.
When picking a domain name, there have been studies that show the ones people remember most are 3 and 4 syllable domain names. Single word domain names are best but often hard to get. You also want a domain name is simple to spell and spell correctly. When you see domain names like “EZ-whatever” it’s hard for a potential customer to remember they need to put in the dash and also they may end up typing out the full word, IE EASY. My first domain name included a part of my last name. I was a photographer an my business was called ful-photos. I purchased that domain name. People used to tell me all the time. “I tried to go to your site but nothing happend”. As it turned out they were typing in fullphotos. At which time I bought that name and business increased. So in the end the best is to keep it simple, try to get a domain that is from your service area.
How about buying more than one domain names?
for example YourCountyWindowCleaning & YourCountyWC
YourCountyWindowCleaning for verbal communication &
YourCountyWC for print because it takes up less space
