yesterday i had to clean some 2nd story gutters and downspouts and man they were stuffed… the problem was that the screws holding the gutter parts together were too long and all the debree was stuffed on them. i had been looking for a downspout cleaning tool like a toilet snake or something else to go on a drill but something with a metal tip would prob snag on the screws and break. so i went to lowes and bought this LintEater dryer vent cleaning tool Lowes.com Error 500 - We are having a problem with our server. and it worked like a charm! you get 2 different brushes with it and those downspouts were clean in no time. just remember to set your drill to go in the right direction, otherwise the brush comes off and you have to take the gutter apart, lol… yeah… happened to me…
when you buy the set you can reach 10 ft down and you can buy extra lengts if you need more. check it out
We use our high pressure hose from the top down, using a ball valve. That first second or so you usually get a pretty bad back splash then after that you are good to go. We clean all of our gutters with our high pressure hose if we are going to wash the house afterwards.
I’ll have to look into the fish wire/tape route. I use a sewer/toilet snake and it’s so stiff and thick (that’s what she said) that it can’t get past the second elbow, where it seems most clogs here sit.
