This question is for those of you who also do dryer vent cleaning.
I want to start offering this add on this spring but I don’t want it to get lost in the spring window cleaning frenzy.
When do you offer this service to your customers?
When setting their window cleaning appointment or when your there doing the windows or send them info just focused on the dryer vents?
I normaly try to add on services when i quote. If the vents are obviouse, On large buildings they stand out like sore thumbs so the owners see them easy if you point them out. my crews also try to upsale a clean some time we end up with to much work. i have one starting this week all vents, lights, ledges, windows, and lime scale as they had plants in the atrium, as of yet i have a open account as i have six staff there for a bout 4 days. All I did was spot a dirty vent. nice add on
We generally market our dryer vent cleaning as an add on service. We run coupons for like $49 for add on to $125 for a single service. We just list it on our flyers and our website but we really don’t push the service very much.It just kinda sells itself…Occasionally we will use it to sweaten the pot so to speak on larger resi jobs. Most people that end upusing that service seam to be either HOA’s or property managers.
Sort of off topic but what are the liabilities in doing this service? I know the whole purpose of this service is for preventing heat build up resulting in fire so for someone to come in and perform this service, you must be taking on some added liability.
That has always been my take on the service also, just like cleaning commercial vent hoods in restaurants, there is the possibility of creating fire hazards if not done correctly and thoroughly.
Maybe paranoia, but I’ve turned down the vent hood requests, and decided somebody else can take the money and the liability for dryer vent cleaning. I gave up on the Christmas lights too, because of the long term liability.
BUT, if I was going to offer these services, then I would probably mention at the end of the first window cleaning, this is usually when people ask me if we do anything else, but it would also give an IN with them, if they are satisfied with your window cleaning work then they are probably more likely to give you a chance on your add on services. IMO, if you try to sell them too many things before you have proven any of your services, they will be lead to the “Jack of all trades, Master of none” impression.
