whats the easiest way to clean 2 story gutters? old fashion ladder an scoop it out? leaf blower? or just use a pole with hook from the ground? what is every one doin? an how do you charge?
Ladder up and use Shopwindowcleaner.com ( Gutter spoon) or what ever its called. I think a leaf blower is messy. Charge per foot or per hour.
Don’t use a blower. I was laughing hard last week when I saw a competitors flyer, it showed them blowing out gutters and standing on someone bed to wash windows.
Using a blower can make more of mess on the siding/windows and just looks lazy.
Also use standoffs on your ladder so you don’t mess up the integrity of the gutter.
My service area includes a foothill community with lots of trees – oaks, cedars, and pines.
My gutter cleaning price always includes removal of debris from the entire roof and gutters. I use a Stihl gas backpack blower for the roof (including valleys) and gutters UNLESS the gutters are too wet. It might take some planning and finesse to logically removal all debris in a somewhat neat fashion, but it is easily accomplished with one’s [problem-solving skills and experience.
I collect and remove (take with me) all debris. Lazy? I don’t think so.
using a blower to clean the gutters is lazy in my mind. Call it what you will, not going to get into a ****ing match over the issue.
For my team, they know if I see them using a blower to clean gutters they are done working for our company.
What makes the process of cleaning a roof and gutters with a blower lazy (your term, not mine)?
Can you post that? hahaha
It isnt lazy if it works.
If a blower can get the job done properly and neatly (without making a mess on the house) then I say it makes everything a little easier.
Where I live you can not get away with it, there is always that bit of decomposed leaves and sludge that makes it s you have to do everything by hand.
JMO
If I had I scanner I would, but I don’t
I never said blowing a roof was lazy, you are putting words in my mouth.
If the roofs if flat enough for you to walk and blow out the gutters it is flat enough for you to clean the gutters by hand from the roof. I don’t care how well you clean up the ground you are missing debris there as well as putting dust on the windows when you blow out the gutters. As you stated you wouldn’t do it if the gutters were wet. Clearly you’ve seen the mess that can make on the siding.
The roofs we deal with typically don’t make blowing the gutters out an option. Again if it works for you/your company and you clients more power to you, not on my watch.
Your earlier post:
In the earlier post the subject was just gutters, then you brought up whe whole roof talking about 2 different things.
On another subject if you blow out the gutters, what kind of roof is it? Most of the gutter jobs I have around here is with shingle/composite roofing that results in silt gathering in the bottom of the gutters, that blowing can’t get out.
Yes, I brought up complete roof cleaning. But, my recommendation and endorsement for blower use remains the same.
BTW, blowing off a roof in addition to the gutters in my service area provides the level of service and value my customers require.
A blower absolutely removes all silt – whether wet or dry – every time.
Yeah it does. Especially when you use an Echo PB-650 like mine.
For us a blower is a must for cleaning gutters. Certainly a must for cleaning off roofs and valley’s, which is included in my gutter cleaning prices if applicable. Not cleaning off the roof and valley’s would be like not cleaning a screen. We don’t necessarily use a blower every time on every job, but when it’s practical and efficient, why not use a blower?
Mr. sethfenster,
Every time I see your avatar I get HUNGRY! Mmmmm sandwiches.
Anyway, about the gutters, I just scoop them out by hand. I bought one of those gutter spoons from here but never use the damn thing unless I put it on a pole with an angle adapter to get to some hard to reach gutters.
Well said, each job requires different methods.
If you have the money. The best way I think is with this. There are more powerful and professional systems. Suck the junk into the bag and roll out with a check. And no worry about falling off a roof. Or OSHA requirements of being tied off. But you need to pull in alot of gutter cleaning jobs to cover your investment.

I use a stihl blower/vac… blowem out suckem up. If roof is too steep to walk ,have to use the ladder…of course you clean the gutters first then the windows(and put towel on poles to wipe off outside of gutter for excess debris)…I had one client scared of the roof line, i said no problem told him price 149… big house… walked roof with butt and blew the gutters out, last time i do a 10/12 walking…done one hour and 10 minutes he wasn’t happy afterward…why? haven’t heard from in some time.
Stihl BR 550 and BR 600 for me.
