Eco-friendly window cleaning

I’m thinking of making my window cleaning business eco friendly by using bicycles and bike trailers I’ve been looking into it and I know there are a few about but parking gets worse from where I’m from and it could be a good gimmick because everyone will remember the guy that came on a bike and still did a good job so I just wanted to see what other people thought about it any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks :+1:t2:

Welcome to the community! @Darren_millett

That sounds like a great idea! We’re going into our 5th year this year of using only bikes, cargo bikes, and trailers for our window cleaning business. In downtown urban settings it makes tons of sense as it saves time, money, and, as you mentioned, sticks in people’s minds. Some cities are already implementing carefree sections and blocks allowing only foot and pedal traffic.

If you want to see our some of how our journey has unfolded here’s our Instagram…

In one year alone we put 10,000 kilometers on the trailer. It can go anywhere, park anywhere, and costs almost nothing to run. It houses a 3 stage RO/DI system, all attachments, and 75 feet of water fed pole. The cost savings is now in the $1,000’s per year. Even though you show up on 2 wheels doesn’t mean you have to be a “bucket Bob” either. We’re one of the highest charging companies in our area. Stay humble and keep pedaling!

Please feel free to ask us any questions.

Best,

Joshua

Looks good I’ve followed you on Instagram. Do yo manage to get to enough jobs in one day by bike?and do you manage wth hills ok? That’s my only worry really.

One side of the business focuses mostly on storefront routes while the other side of the business only does wfp work. With storefront it’s easier than driving because it saves tons of time having to search for parking, and walking up to the storefront. With a bike you literally ride right up to the door, no walking, no parking, no carrying anything.

For hills its rarely a problem. We’ve used both “long John” style and “front loader” cargo bikes without motors and as long as you’re in reasonably good shape most hills are not a big deal… It’ll just get you ready for beach season!

I personally use an ebike to tow my big cargo trailer that at times weighs 300 pounds. I’ll go up any hill as it has a very powerful mid-drive motor that’s geared for low end torque.

This is really cool, other pictures won’t open for me. There are a lot of ways to clean windows, but the water fed pole is the one I like the most. It’s a perfect solution when you live on 3rd-4th floor. It would not work if the building has more floors, and that is exactly the case with my building. I live on the 7th floor, and this would never reach. My solution is https://cleaningday.co.uk/, I pay them to clean everything for me, and it’s the simplest solution for me. They are really not expensive, but they do a great job with anything that is dirty in your house.
