Hi guys I would like to get peoples opinions on the best systematic way to train new employees. For example - giving them a handbook to read that describes the steps and ladder safety or on site training or combination etc. I know it takes a lot of time to become a “good” window cleaner and also to be safe but if you have any input on easy to grasp systems that would be great! Gutter cleaning and pressure washing apply as well. Since window cleaning has such a high turnover with most employees being in college etc I believe the key is to be able to have a good systematic setup that new guys can easily grasp.
Need a combination, nothing beats hands on training.
Every new hire gets three days training before every step on a jobsite. Start out with 2-3 hours going safety, policy’s, technical stuff, then practice for the rest of the day with a thirty minute recap at the end of the day. There still slow as hell but when they enter a home for the first time they know what there doing and safely how to do it.
Of course for the first 2 - 4 weeks they only wash like 4 windows a job and end up doing sills, tracks, screens, while the experinaced guy knocks out the glass.
Videos are good to get the basic concepts, but hands on is the best

Thanks for the tips. I think I’m gonna write out a little training plan on the things I want to get across on the training days. Showing some videos sounds good too.
How many guys are you training?
I have made many training videos for my employees and have found this to be invaluable as they come in with a real good understanding of the way I want them to work. these videos are my own methods and the way I do the work. I don’t like the videos that you buy online or the YouTube ones. I believe in training my people my way.
We also use on the job training as well but only under my own supervision. I believe in making ALL of my employees just like me so that my customers see consistency in the service no matter who is there. I also only hire quality individuals with NO window cleaning experience. This way they do not have bad habits
