Extension pole instead of ladder?

wouldnt it be alot easier to just use a 27ft extension pole instead of a ladder or faster for a 2 story home? or you wouldnt be able to clean the window well enough?

Depends on the window. Some windows clean up well enough w/ a pole. I always ladder any jobs w/ storm windows as well as any CCU jobs.

I’ll ladder most often when I can for first time cleans. I did a 3 story house today that was impossible to ladder safely in a couple of places so I poled it including using a razor.

i believe its an option, but the only way would be to leave your ladders at home or sell them and this would then force the learning curve

to those who are good with poles I am amazed with what you do. However, I can not believe people use poles inside of homes.

countless times i have laddered up to windows inside a home to see horrible water spots left by a WC who poled. I can not understand how they/you get away with it.

well i agree for inside the home i would get right up on the window… but for outside 2nd story i wonder if a old fashion extension pole will do the job or not

Danny - I use a pole on 2nd story work all the time w/ great results.

Dave - At first I struggled to close out the inside windows but w/ practice I have gotten to the place where I don’t have a problem. In fact many times there are rooms w/ a ton of furniture to maneuver around and using a pole is safer many times rather than bringing in a ladder.

mistersqueegee - your talking about a reg extension pole right? not a wfp right?.. do you use a squuegee./ scrubber on one unit an flip around? or wash then detach scrubber and attach squeegee?

I use all of those methods. I also use the Wagtail Whirlwind. I each case w/ the traditional methods it just takes some time before you develop your technique.

mistersqueegee-- ive not got a whirlwind, how do you get it to flip,on long pole work ? can you explain the tecnique as much as you can

(i have a yellow wagtail flipper , pad fitted to the top of squeegee as in the MyWagga videos on Youtube, this i can flip using a sharp jerking motion of the pole , keeping at least a foot away from the glass)

I made my modified ‘top over’ pad a couple of days ago. Today I will test drive it.

Make a video if you have time Mark. I want to do it because it doesn’t feel right having the scrubber on the bottom. I don’t use my Wagtail a whole lot, but would use it more when “Modded”

Are you using the original wagtail flipper(yellow) or the blue slimeline or whirlwind?

Oh man, I used it the other day on a job that I normally would use my backflip and I shaved 20 minutes off the job. SWEET!

For sure I’ll cover the mod in a video. I’ll try (to do a video) sooner than later if possible.

I can’t wait to see it!

Extension poles are the lowest form of cleaning windows unless you are using them for a prewash before water fed poles. Use a ladder

Interesting comment. What makes you say this?

Maybe he’s had one too many squeegees fall off his pole and knock him in the head, Tony

It really does depend on what type of situation you are in and does require some skill. For me personally, I just like getting out the ladder and climbing but I am also still a young buck:D I just love heights. Maybe 5 yrs. from now I won’t be saying that from carrying those darn heavy Werner ladders.

Extension poles, like any other tool have their time and place in our jobs. As I mention earlier in this thread I lake to ladder when possible on first time cleans. Knowing when it’s best to pole and acquiring the skill to do it properly are key to a successfully cleaned window. Most of the time when I opt for poling it is usually due to safety factors and getting around obstacles that make laddering impossible. Also most commercial work I do I pole.

Ill pole 2nd story windows in the right conditions. I have better luck when the suns not directly on them. It does save a lot of time and its safer. First cleans tho should be face to glass i think.

wow poling second story glass w/ good results Is Awesome!
