A first nickname basis? Wow!
I switch between Ettore and hannels or maybe a Slayer.
Is it coincidence that Ettore and Steccone are squeegee manufacturers?
Super system and contour here. I’ve always used unger and ettore. I generally use 12’ and 16’ channels but have a bag with a bunch of little ones that I have cut on site to suit my needs. For instance, if a house has a hundred 5’x7’, I will cut a 5’ blade so I can cut/pull them quickly and efficiently. I have a small rubber jawed vice, hack saw and small rat tail file in my WC arsenal for this purpose.
THE GLASS MACHINE
“because glass looks it’s best when you can’t see it”
This is what I do. Plus my 6" on my hip
I have a 6" and a 8" for transom windows.
Used a 14’ brass master squeegee today for the first time and man that thing worked great all day. Little heavier than the 12’ aluminum I’m acustome to but it did a swell job.
Hey Mike,
Do you prefer the Steccone mostly because of the angle of the handle, or its light weight? I’ve noticed that Pulex do “featherwight” squeegees, was wondering if they are similar…sidential but love the 22" Slayer for larger windows. I have noticed that you are obviously a big fan of Steccone and was wondering about trying them out…always good to try something different, even if you dont like it!!!
I like them because of the weight but the biggest reason I use steccone squeegees on residential jobs is the angel. For storefront work I put the steccone channels in Ettore brass handles because the angle is better on a pole. JMO
I have never tried the Pulex or Ettore featherweight handles.
I use 'em all - variety is the spice of life
Right on karlosdaze !!! I use mostly
pull one stroke across the glass. Otherwise i carry a 16" and 10" and snake the window and a “7 for french panes. I use the ettore pro contour handle as well. I used to use either a 18” or “20 yet lately i’ve moved to a 16”. Seems to work out the best for the usual situations i encounter. I always try to take notes on each job so i normally prepare a different squeguee each day i work.
I like Ettore or Unger Brass
I used the wagtail for the first time today. What a excellent tool! I was chatting with a couple of high rise guys that swore by them. So I bought a 12in wagtail. Slightly awkward for about 30 seconds but after that I was good to go. I cant believe how fluid it is. I had my reservations about the wagtail but now, I a huge fan. This will be my primary resi squeegee. I plan on buying the 18’ sometime soon.
Unger 10in and 16in pulex rubber
I just got a wagtail too. I really like them from pole work
Does the wagtail work well in hot weather (Arizona) in the sun? Or is the monsoon stripper better?
The Wagtail is perfect for hot climates - the rubber in them (a superior grade) is better too.
I went with my gut starting out and went against traditional local wisdom. I’m now running Ettore brass channels at 6", 10", 14", and 20" using brass handles except for my 20", for which I use an Ettore swivel handle with quick release. I do a lot of storefronts, and every squeegee gets used. The 10" and 14" are great for straight pulls, with a touch of detailing. If a residential has Georgian windows throughout, I cut the channel(s) to fit the panes. It’s worth it; otherwise, the 14" is great for most residential windows imo.
