Figure Eightzzz

Yeah. I know we got our own techniques and own methods. I have seen
multiple people on YouTube use the figure eight method. The person that
comes to mind is @TheWindowCleanse. He has a video on it and there is lots of
truth on the swing technique he uses on a pole but not when you can reach a
window with your hand. Because the technique basically involves the
squeegee coming down one side and then under the solution on the bottom of
the window. The problem there is that when you go under the solution you
have all the water above it that still needs to be wiped away by the
squeegee. I love watching Jordie’s videos. I just personally think the
figure 8 technique is a waste of time.

This topic reminds me of the old adage “Time is Money” and the acronym KISS.
Keep it simple stupid.

Well it’s why we have a forum. If you don’t have anything good to add to it then why post on it? I explained myself to anyone that asked why I brought this topic up. The technique is useful every once in a while but just a complete waste of time in most situations. I just don’t understand why I see people on you tube doing it on every window

I was watching a Luke the Window Cleaner video on YouTube and Reanna said something very important about changing her technique. She has been trying to change any bad habits that could be called wasted movements. If the move can be eliminated she’s eliminating it. EFFICIENCY
She’s a squeegee slinger for sure.

hahaha. I like that. I think we try to look fancy and come up with
techniques to look good but in reality we gotta keep it simple. thanks for
sharing!

That’s exactly what I was trying to say. Haha

I do it all the time when the situation calls for it. I have a bunch of Windows on my routes that benifit from and under swing in the fanning motion. It saves an extra half pull. If you do it fast enough and cut back your squeegee fast enough you don’t have to worry about drops or marks. But ya gotta be quick.

Yeah! I think you use this technique perfectly. Use it when the window
calls for it. My whole thing was that people use it at unnecessary times
and it wastes time in the long run but is beneficial in certain situations.

Thanks for the kind words. We simply try to eliminate wasted movements and try to implement techniques that get the jobs done quickly and efficiently. Moving faster from pane to pane means moving faster from job to job. I’ve always said to every man his own. We have our own style and our own choice of tools just like everybody. There is no perfect technique or tool. We enjoy seeing all different styles and techniques when it comes to window cleaning. I try to show and explain our choice of tools and techniques on our channel but always encourage viewers to shop around and blend what works best for them, and of course to come up with their own methods. We are not the best window cleaners but I think to our standards we have found a way to clean windows in a quick professional manner.

In my opinion some of the best show case of skills comes from folks with minimal movements . Mark Henderson, Christopher Dawber to name a few. True masters . Then if you’re looking for zero detailing of course mr. Bladz is a surgeon. And folks like inwinblades has a technique unique to him alone. Who’s right who’s wrong…just window cleaning.

Window cleaners. You’re doing it all Wrong!.

Sorry I had to say it. If you haven’t read that thread yet I highly suggest checking it out. It’s a complete waste of time!

Everything other than a single straight pull with a squeegee that exactly matches the pane width is a waste of time.

Truth^^

Really  OK, hold on I’ll pull out my tape, measure the width allow 2.75mm either side for a little paint and putty debris and then unroll my hand tooled leather wrap containing my 32 lengths of custom cut channels, select the appropriate one and quickly blade off that sucker …

Yes yes. :grinning: My intent was to humorously point out that during NORMAL work processes, you are going to waste some time no matter what technique you employ.

Unless you by some magical coincidence have a perfect squeegee on hand to fit the exact pane width, you are technically going to “waste” time either by detailing, making additional pulls that partially overlap their predecessor(s), or fanning over some small portions of the window that have already been cleaned.
