First Roof Washing Job - A little nervous - am I ready?

I lined up my first 2 roof washing jobs for this Friday and I am a little nervous.

I have all that I think I need, but wanted to run it by you guys first.

I purchased
-20 gallons of 12.5% pool shock (will probably pick up more to be safe)
-1/2hp transfer pump which pumps at 20 GPM
-Hoses
-35 gallon heavy duty waste can for mixing on the site
-buckets/bags for the end of the downspouts
-rain gear for while I am on the roof
-planning on picking up dish soap to add to the mix
-ladders

Planning to mix 30% shock to 60% water and a couple of bottles of dish soap.

Got a second guy to stay on the ground and keep the area wet.

The first house (1200 sq ft with a 4/12 pitch) has small concentrations of moss. The second one (1500 sq ft with a 12/12 pitch on one side) is covered in black streaks.

Anybody see anything wrong with my setup or plans? Have any suggestions, or ballpark of how long either of these houses should take? And should I rinse?

Thanks in advance

Jim-

You’re going run out of mix in less than two minutes.

Only on paper/on the Internet.

The pump is rated at 20GPM, but when I did a dry run on my roof it came out at a manageable speed I used up about 15 gallons on half the roof in about 25 minutes.

First off congrats on your upcoming gigs, remember to get before and after pic’s.

I use the Devlan 5800 pump (5.3 gpm) from Pressure Tek, which is more than enough.
Don’t forget to wear a breathing respiratory, I use one from Grainger rated for Chlorine gases
Product Name: North™ 7600 Full Face Respirator,M/LGrainger Item #: 3A183

DON’T SPRAY UPWIND
SH AINT NO JOKE …

you really need a pump in the 5gpm range to start. After you get familiar with the equipment and process you MAY want to go to a higher gpm, say 7-10 max.

Why rain gear?

what size/thickness bags did you get?

Depending on the shingle color and how bad the algae is, will may want a stronger mix

Many dish soaps are NOT compatible with SH, be careful

Get a respirator and use it

Gain dish soap is a good surfactant and get some Roof Snot from Pressure Tek.
