I scratched some glass and a window tinter told me that window tint sometimes fills in the voids caused by the scratches. Anyone ever try this?
I’m not sure what he’s talking about… The glue on the film and the film itself will cover the scratch, but it will still be visible through the tint… I mean, film changes the look(varying degrees, depending on the film) and the glare of the glass, so in theory, it might make the scratch less visible, but it will still be there. Also, it probably costs as much to hire a film company as it would to hire a scratch removal company.
There are some methods out there that if you grind the damage out and get the glass to a uniform haze covering the area with a tint or clear film will clear up the glass. Here is an example:
The big issue that I have with this method is that it cuts corners. When (not if) that film is removed you will have big hazy areas on the glass. It is best to remove the damage, polish the glass back to clarity and then film if that is what the customer wants. Just my 2 cents.

One service Dan Fields offers is just that – haze the glass in a uniform manner and install graffiti film to 6’ in height.
Can you do this on mirrors aswell as windows
I worked in a window/mirror shop for years. While putting film on the mirror MAY less it, the problem i see is that the scratches will be reflected by the mirror keeping them visible .
If you scratch back of the mirror its trash.
This method had been around for years and years, and it definitely makes the scratches less noticable.
Yeah I had a guy show me how graffiti film can hide scratches and failed pane damage if done perfectly, but if done wrong it can leave air bubbles behind it.
